Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yes front shifting on SRAM really, really sucked but I have to say with the latest generation of flat top chain and rings (AXS 12) they really seemed to have finally figured out how to keep the chain from dropping so damn much. Now if they finally do the Mineral Oil swap in the brake system that they seem to be leaning towards I could actually get behind them.
Psshh... Kind of selfish not wanting to get cancer from working on brakes isn't it? I kid, I kid... That is a huge factor in why I only have Shimano and TRP hydraulic brakes. Even my MTB with SRAM GX shifting has Shimano brakes...

If anyone is looking for a SRAN Red E1 groupset I suggest TPC.
You can get a full groupset w/ the hammerhead Karoo and power cranks for $4350, granted the only package they offer they are forcing you to buy the computer and they only have the powered cranks and in larger crank sizes

However if Shimano was a 9/10 shift speed wise SRAM was always a 8.8/10.

IMO if you are a SRAM AXS owner especially a SRAM Force D2 owner, IMO this is where mixing and matching is very beneficial. For me the shifters, chain, and maybe rear derailleur are the only things I would buy from Red E1 while the rest would be Force D2 or the old Red D1. The new rotors are only 8g lighter which puts them at 108g but frankly Galfer Wave CL Rotors 160mm are 98g and are cheaper at $70. I frankly think the new front derailleur will be exactly the same performance wise as the Force D2, so IMO why pay $450 when you can buy the Force for $243 or cheaper with sales? Unless you need the 10-36 in Red, just getting a Red D1 cassette on sale now is such a better deal. The crankset is only 29g lighter yet you can find Force D2 and even Red D1 cranks for under $400 now
Yeah, I have a bike where I swapped out the Force D1 derailleurs and crankset for the D2. But I never updated the shifters. Maybe these new Red ones would be nice. But, wow, they're pricey....

So misspoke the set isn't $1500 ($750 each) but $1350 ($675 each) however Force D2 shifters are $350 each but I have seen sales on them for 20% off thus $280 or $560 per pair, thus a pair of Force D2 is less than one Red AXS E1 Shifter, granted the new Red E1 shifter seems to be the biggest game changer of the new groupset is that it has small hoods, longer reach, new aesthetics, one finger pulls, larger rotor clearance, and 80g lighter than the old Red, but damn $1300 before tax and before install...

For me I will stick with the Force D2 rear derailleur and just install ceramic oversized pulley wheels to basically get the same thing. You can find older Red AXS D1 cranks for sub $400 new now, so what does 80g mean and even Force D2 is so close. The front derailleur might be a game changer but $450 vs Force D2 $243 with common sales is a hard sell. For me the 10-36T Red cassette if you do 1X or want it on a climbing bike is a great option but the $100 premium to go Rainbow is insane. The 160mm cranks are well welcomed. The chain looks super cool and for me that's a must buy.

Ceramic bearing pulleys are the most over priced add on that there is.

I've never had a chain drop or problems with 16 FD setups, but no SRAM cranks, and no wedges. Draw your own conclusions. I did get rid of two Force d1 FDs and found new Rival models to replace them. I can run 46/30 chain rings with 10-44 cassettes. Every gear combo is useable, but I avoid using the 46/44.
