would be gone from that group in a hurray. <CR>
<CR>
most group rides start with warmup (usually too short...) <CR>
if it's a day when I want to work on short term power, I let a group go off front (usually happens) and when the gap gets large enough, I try to bridge... If it doesn;t work, the group behind will catch me.<CR>
When terrain allows, I try to bridge again, and again <CR>
If it's a climbing day/ride. I usually hit the climbs somewhere nearr the rear, and see how far forward I can get... <CR>
If it's really social, casual, it's always a ride for non-frequent riders, like the local Ski CLub. I tend to hang back and get as many to come onto my wheel and I work to slowly pull them back forward. <CR>
Don;t do many of these; maybe once every 2mos. <CR>

Larry, you're such a troll. You start all these threads by asking a somewhat normal question, then you add details specifically to get people's panties in a bunch. It's so narcissistic, you stand out as someone desperate for attention. "Look at me, notice me...please. I'm going to do a bunch of dumbass things that no one else does, so look at me".

Sometimes I can't even tell who is being serious and who's just trying to out-jackass each other.

i also know some people who ride off the back on the easier days to get a better workout; they play games like letting the group get away then attempt to catch up

I like to stick towards the front with the more experienced/strong riders. If, and only if, I know the group very well that I am riding with will rotate through to the back. But if there are new riders or riders that I do not know on the ride/paceline, I keep a healthy/safe distance.

5 ft is not far enough. If the group braked hard for any reason, you'll crash into them. At least get one ear bluetooth headset and get your phone mounted on the handlebar. You'll be able to make your zoom meeting but with both hands on the handlebar.

On large group rides, I hang out off the back of the guys who are off the back. Then, using my quiver of frame pumps, I pick off the guys - one-by-one - who are listening to music, on their phones...

There wouldn't be a safe place for OP on any group ride I'm familiar with.

You're not wrong. Can we all just agree that the right time for a Zoom call on your phone is NOT during a group bike ride? Doesn't really matter if you're one foot, five feet, or fifty feet off the back, or how many of your brakes are in working order. Just do that stuff somewhere else.

If listening to music looks bad enough to others, talking to the phone is a lot worse. I once did saw a member of the group take a phone call. They slowed and got off the group. I mean not just ~5 ft off the back but far far away from the group.
