Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nahhhh, I'll be showing up in my Chrysler mom-van. At least it's new, red and comfy. Bonus: I can fit 3-4 bikes and 3-4 people in it without having to deal with racks.

Beth

PS Probably without the bikes and with all the seats folded down I could fit one of those VW's in the back, too

Does that have the stow-n-go or whatever it's called? I've never seen that and wonder if it's big enough to fit a human being into... by the way, shoving myself into small places is a favorite pastime of mine

Yup, stow-n-go - pretty cool. Lots of hiding places. Haven't put a human in there yet, but the kids have come close to being the first. Perhaps you'd like to test it out for them

Where do you stow them when you ride?

Stow what? The kids?

When I ride they are stowed at home with Dad; but if he has a golf outing or other plans at the same time as my rides, I guess the stow-n-go could come in handy

My ETA should be around 3 or 4pm if all goes well. So I guess i'll head to the pool area to find you guys.
See you then.

If the weather this weekend is like it was this afternoon, Jessica is going to be a force to be reckoned with. We did our usual 13 mi "after work" loop today, and on the first major climb I slowed to check her computer mount (her computer has intermittently stopped working) and she blew right by me. I had to chase her up the hill, and she was climbing at around 11 mph (I usually climb this hill at around 12 when I'm pushing it to the wall). She sure likes the cooler temps!

This was the first decent ride on the new bike. Seat had to come up some, bars had to be rotated a bit, and the seat needed to nose-up a little, but I'm going to hold off on lowering the bars because I had Jess take some pics of me in rider position (which are way too gay looking to post on here, so don't ask) and my position on the hoods and on the drops both look good. Completely flat back while in the drops, other than the Armstrongesque "hump".

She's definitely ready for the weekend.

I know the feeling - I have gently coaxed my wife into road biking over the past few months - started off with her riding my old 80s 12 speed.....she just plunked down the plastic for a new Cannondale R1000 today.

now I'll never be able to keep up with her - I've created a monster

Saturday
Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 80s.

Saturday Night
Partly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows in the upper 60s. Chance of rain 40 percent.

Sunday
Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the lower 80s. Chance of rain 40 percent.

It's better than a 105 degree heat index!!

NOW HEAR THIS!

Dinner on Saturday night --unless a local vetos the location (no vetos without a replacement, please)-- is Caruso's Italian Restaurant, a scant 1.6 miles from the Quality Inn. That's right, close enough to walk there, and stumble back (harhar). How does 7pm sound?

Directions from the hotel:
https://www.ypengine.com/yp.cfm?brd=2...n=PA&x=12&y=12

PM me NOW if you plan on making dinner so I can call and warn them

Oh boy! My excitement is rising.
My weekend bigens in 30 minutes! This afternoon I get a nice long bike ride. Friday - another ride and a little yard work. Saturday a party in Chambersburg with my family and then . . .Sunday!
(I'm taking off Monday too.)

This should be a lot of fun. I look forward to watching you'all pull away and leave me in your dust! At least I hope for dust rather than rain ... I was looking forward to a few downhills to see how fast I can go.

See you guys under the sign/banner by 9 or so, right? I'm driving up from DC that morning. Is there a post-ride get together as well? I may have lost track along the hundreds of messages posted ...

I'll be watching with you...
remember, you were ahead of me all day on the DC ride?
Maybe we can stop and get some tomatoes or cantalope at one of those nice road stands!

Hi...

Jersey Folks here... my fiancee and I are thinking about coming from Jersey for this ride... (not quite last-minute... but close! ) but I've alreay called the hotels listed on the Lancaster Cty bike club's site, and nothing left.

Does anyone have any info on campgrounds closeby that we could spend the saturday night before?
