I started riding with a local group several years ago, and joined Strava. I quit soon after I started getting kudos from people I didn't know. I never posted anything to it, that I know of. Years later I got an email that I had lost a KOM that I didn't even know I had. It was a relatively down hill ride and I'm a big guy.

If "dedicated" means uploading all your rides to Strava...yes I am. -I use it to track my stats and to compare my current year to last year. Since I'm 77 I like to see what/if I'm losing anything as the years go by. I also like seeing how I'm doing compared to other old guys.

Depends what you mean by dedicated, but 100% of my rides and runs are uploaded to Strava through my devices.
Not using it to impress anyone though and I don't care about what my followers may or may not think. Using the app for stats tracking purpose, itinerary planning and to set fitness goals. It's great for this.

Hah. When I ride in Spain (Mallorca, Girona), the Strava segmant leaderboards are full of internationally-known names. It's a little thrill just to be riding the same roads as those guys. In those places, it's hard to even get into the top quarter of the many thousands of riders who have ridden those segments. So a great effort might give you a rank of 2000 out of 8000. Or even higher.

I use Strava a great deal, both for my own rides and keeping up with what my cycling friends are up to. The segments KOMs and such are a little interesting, but very far from the features that matter to me.
It's a place to keep a record of my rides. I used to keep detailed spreadsheets, and now I needn't bother.
It's a place to help me figure out (and remember the names) of the new people on various group rides.
It's a place to keep track of what my cyclist friends are doing, and also to communicate with them. (I do wish they would add a DM feature).

I wouldn't consider myself to be a "retrogrouch", because I really like newer technology hardware bikes, but I am a bit of a technophobe. The extent of electronics I use on my bike are a cheap wired stand alone speed/distance computer and my wired MP3 player (yes, I actually still use an MP3 player). I'm one of those people that believes society is far too plugged in as it is, so changing my attitude on the subject is doubtful.

Ah but you use the interwebs and no doubt have a mobile phone, which automagically rule you out as a complete technophobe. If you have any apps on your phone, Stava (free version) is easy to load as long as you carry your phone with you on rides - highly recommended in case you have a terminal mechanical condition or are harassed by some moron.

Of course, everyone rode for years without phones in their pockets, and the world didn't fall apart. However, these days, it seems almost foolish to ride without one, simply for emergency reasons. Personally, I consider my phone at least as important as my tube/tool kit, and both have bailed me out of issues on the road.

Actually, you may not even need to activate the SIM in the burner; you may be able to just use the SIM in your regular phone, depending on the carrier.
