Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No. A proper day for mowing is about 70, maybe 75. Humidity around 29% with a gentle breeze blowing. Overcast if possible.

A proper day for mowing is any day that someone else does it for you.

**** Big Groupset?

I gotta tell you, I never thought I’d see the day when this forum’s weight weenies would just lay down their arms and surrender to the latest thing, especially when it’s just marginally useful and an obvious weight penalty. Sad.

I thought tubeless was bad, but this is an even more embarrassing surrender. The power of Big Marketing . . . ‘If you make it they will come’.

It seems really stupid, but I would even consider another Habanero, same custom geometry but set up for internal cables/hoses, disc brakes, slightly wider tire clearances....probably looking at $2-2.5K for frame/fork.

Datlas worked his ass off to get through med school and all that that involves, and then works his ass off most of his life. He lived a frugal life so his family could have a good life. He now deserves a trophy bike!

I agree. It's frustrating that Big Groupset is pushing some of us into C&V though.

I know others are, eg Campy and maybe MicroShift etc. so I would consider them, but I don't have the tools for campy and not sure I want to go on a Spirit Airlines level groupset either.

Shimano Di2 12-speed supports rim brakes, but the shifters have to be wired like 11-speed Di2. Not a bid deal to run the wires in a modern frame.

I will concede that. My issue is the Habanero is set up for external cables so I really want to use the fancy semi-wireless Di2 and that does NOT support rim brakes.

Maybe I am being too picky?

Looks to me like it's right there on that page. 11 or 12 speed with rim and Di2.

Yeah but those are wired. Putting wired Di2 externally is an option but quite ugly IMO.

I get it if you want to retrofit the Habanero.

You should get a trophy bike instead.

Agree.

Can you drill some holes? They don't have to be very big. Can't see a couple of small holes ruining the structural integrity of the frame.

Qwitcher Qvetching. If you want rim brakes, I still see Super Record EPS with rim brakes listed for sale. It is $4K, but it is rim and it is electronic. Lots of good custom carbon available. Calfee makes nice tandems, not so sure about their solo bikes. Parlee is still around and I have seen their bikes up close. Lots of good stuff out there.

I'd be careful about Parlee since it is in or just coming out of bankruptcy. Don't send them too much up front, at least not anymore than you would be comfortable losing if its fortunes spiral down.

Parlee Cycles files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection | Bicycle Retailer and Industry News

Back from bankruptcy, Parlee Cycles is optimistic: 'We’re still building bikes every single day in Beverly' (yahoo.com)

Most Chapter 11s turn into Chapter 7s before they are over.
