Acclimation has a lot to do with perceived comfort. A friend of a friend was stationed in Greenland and came to visit here on what we felt was a chilly day. He was amused that we felt cold. He said there was a "heat wave" in Greenland before he left and the daytime high was about 40f. He said the guys were playing volleyball in shorts and shortsleeves,
Conversely, when Hawaii Bro and SIL visit us, they tend to wear jackets in what we consider shirtsleeve weather. Sarasota Sister is similar.

Under the weather last night and all day today. Digestive issues. It gave me the opportunity to read my first Charles Bukowski book. Absence of the Hero. Uncollected essays. It will not be my last.

Working at the Post Office, I wore shorts 365 days a year. After retiring., I hesitate to ride if it's below 60. I look at Datlas "time to ride" when it's below freezing and I start shivering.

Riding in the cold is hard. Much of it is what you're willing to adapt to, hence my talk of shirtless running as long as it's above 20*. The streets being dry helps considerably of course.

My son is 11 months post tearing his quads loose. One quad had to be reattached in a second surgery after 8 months when it detached again. Of course, his deadlifts and squats are well over 600# but he'll never be able to do it again, let alone walk properly.
BTW, he also detached a bicep the year before.

I concur. Then again, he's still "young." I used to ride in any weather when I was younger but my minimum temp is if I have to wear booties, I ain't doing it. Anyway, his ride today definitely makes my 20 mile ride at 39º look laughable.

May have missed our last chance to go up nearer by Clingman's Dome (only a few dozen feet shorter, but much worse traffic to contend with) this year.

No, it qualified. It was way less steep than, say, Whiteface Mountain, but still a mountain in its own right. Towards the end of the climb I was actually feeling the effects of the altitude.

this was not discussed but i don’t want her opinion, i want to know what the science says. I did ask her if standing all day would help restore my bone density and she said no. To clarify; I asked her about restoring not maintaining my bone density. Apparently stress to the bones is what is needed. (Think heel strike while running) Walking won't do this. I only know what she told me.

I am listening to them now.
In addition to listening to TSO, I am reviewing my preoperative instructions. In 48 hours I'll be resting and recovering peacefully at home in the Northwest Metro Atlanta area.

Do you agree with this datlas ? Walking not being sufficient to maintain bone density? ![foo](https://www.bikeforums.net/vb/cache/ds.jpg)
Anyone who says anything below 70F, no matter what the elevation, is "toasty," is delusional.

You live in a not-normal place.
Spreadsheet activities. Listening to an interview right now.

Studded tires... The solution to ice on the road. When I rode to work this morning it was in the mid 20's (F) with patches of snow and ice. I would not attempt it without studded tires. The hardtail MTB I rode today has Schwalbe Marathon Winter Plus studded tires. My gravel/touring bike has a set of 45 NRTH Gravdal Tires. And for icy conditions I have a set of Vee Snow Shoe studded tires for the fat tire bike.
