Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

NYC does not in fact have a monopoly on city slickers.

Rodeo Austin at least used to be sponsored by AMD and was next door to COTA.

True. Mrs. GJ likes to binge watch stuff in the evenings, and fall asleep in the middle. It's up to me to notice when she drifts off and try to figure out the last thing she remembers so we can start there the next day. It doesn't have to be high quality, but it's best if there are a lot of episodes, because finding something new is fraught. There are tons of things I'd be happy to watch, but she's persnickety and doesn't like a lot of shows. Often she'll watch for 10 minutes or half an hour and say, "Well, it's not doing anything for me, but you can watch if you want." A few years back, we started watching "The Americans", that show about two Soviet sleeper agents, living in DC before the fall of the Soviet Union. After half an hour, she nixed it. I liked it, though, so I'd watch it after she went to bed. I was a into the second season, and she woke up from a nap while I was watching it. She sat down, and after a few minutes, she said, "What show is this?", so I told her and she said it looked interesting.

So I said, "Okay, let's go back to the beginning and watch so I don't have to catch you up on who everyone is." So back we went to the first episode, which she enjoyed, and then we watched the whole series, 1-3 episodes a night.

No. I drove across it one day. That was all the time I wanted to spend there. In fact, maybe a bit more time than I wanted to spend there. I felt like an ant crawling across a tabletop.

Anyone who exercises for more than 45 minutes/day has time to waste.

Similar things happen in our house.

There's some shows that she watches that I really don't care about, but I usually hang out with her, and browse stuff on my phone or laptop. It's not uncommon for me to make comments about her shows that "I'm not watching".

The Americans was excellent, IMO.

One thing we both noted - and laughed about - is the number of times that both of them had to go out in the middle of the night and do something terrible, and they'd think briefly about the kids, but then say, "They'll be fine", when really, they weren't!!! It happened again and again!

Most of them look to me like something they did wrong driving from one rodeo to the next. Wonder what's up with that.

Today I learned there's a Sheyenne, ND; think it's pronounced like Cheyenne, WY?

I guess there are a few inappropriate things you could do with a hat, but if the fine's only $10 I'm sure it was worth it

2022 SHEYENNE HAT FINE $10.00

Or maybe it's a fine for failure to wear a hat

A noted medical institution here in the city owes me over $870. I only discovered this fact while I was looking at the patient portal during yet another call with my insurance company. Even then, the message was ambiguous. My account balance was $0, and there was a note saying that the amount "had not been applied to my account balance." Code speak for "we owe you money." I told the ******** to cut me a check right away. What pisses me off the most is that a less educated person who could really use that large of a refund might not realize what is being said. Even I needed to call and ask for a translation. U.S.A.! U.S.A.!
