Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I later bought a gravel bike because all the cool kids were doing it. Where I live, our gravel roads are real gravel, not dirt or some kind of hard pack, but real loose and squirrely gravel. I rode it on gravel a few times and I thought. "If I fall, this is going to hurt...bad." Sold it.

One of my favorite lines is when my triathlete friends in the '80s were bugging me to do triathlons, I quipped, "I'd rather be good in one sport than mediocre in three."

I've got more stories but I'd have to start charging.

I will begin the night in my hammock and transfer to the bed when it gets too cold to stay there. The bed will keep me warm but my back and hips will suffer. Crippled in the morning either way.

Prolly training for a TT event. I have found that nothing causes me to perform at my peak watts than the treat of being pancaked.

About to watch the time trial. Didn't read much twitter today so I'm doing fine

Here's a pic of some Citroens (it's off of FB so don't look at it for too long). 1985 Dubai

Didn't see it. If you posted such, you're targeting the wrong audience.

No rain predicted for Wednesday, supposed to be not too cold, so it’s a go for our first Mt Hamilton climb of 2024.

It’s about time. Should be quite green after all the rain.

It’s funny.
99.5% of my riding is road but 100% of the races or events I do are gravel.

it’s so much fun, my biggest issue is I don’t feel like riding 15 miles most days to get to it.

I survived the night in my hammock, warm as toast, I pulled out a heavy quilt, from my paternal great grandmother. I had been using a more modern, lighter weight one, from my mom. Hollow fill sleeping bag beneath me and my Carharrt jacket. And of course wool socks and long johns.
