Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Very happy to see the Giro results today! A very deserved win. Great to see him back on the top step after some hard years. He's a real champion.

I don't think Vol is an expert in vintage cars or anything for that matter. Maybe in bad music.

I don't think you've fully considered all the topics I may be an expert on. Go back and reassess.

I am still pondering best replacement for the Saturn. My dad’s minivan is possible but he is doing better and despite his age of 90 he may not be willing to let it go for another year or two. I figure I should get something as close to a Saturn as possible : cheap and reliable. I have been leaning towards a civic or Corolla, but our LYFT ride yesterday was a Nissan Versa (which last I checked is the cheapest car sold in the USA), and it was surprisingly nice. So that’s on the list.

Since the Civic Type R is overpriced, a Civic Si is also on the short list but may not fit the budget.

Unless the Saturn falls apart, I luckily have until the end of the year to figure this out.

The Versa is available with manual transmission also! Doesn't seem like they made many with a stick as I looked for inventory a few months ago and didn't see any in PHX or Las Vegas.

Nissan and CVT do not mix well. If you are considering a Versa, and it can be had with a manual, then that's the only way to go. Otherwise, choose another brand.

They were cool cars. Cord made the first American fwd drive car, the L29 in 1929, and then introduced the 810 in 1935 or so. They had the misfortune to debut during the Great Depression, though.

One thing I hated about the 2015-ish Versa Note was the chrome bezels around the gauges. I'd regularly get blinded by those things driving around Phoenix.

Course, the Cord couldn't have been too cool. As pictured, there are no wooden rims installed.

Type R is too gaudy for my taste. Get an Si! You can probably get a used one for pretty cheap, unless you're aiming to go for new. Civics last forever.

Alas. Neither can I. 59 is my absolute limit, and that with a very short stem. But the 60 and 61 cm seat tubes fit me perfectly,

Good to know. I still want a stick but may have to go automatic for the people.

Is that custom? 61cm tt seems long for an off the shelf frame.

I see some 5 year old used Si’s for about 15k. That fits the budget. I only wonder if they have been driven hard/abused as they attract people who push them.

CVTs are one of those things that make excellent sense from a logical and engineering standpoint, and may actually work as advertised, but which don't warm the hearts of enthusiasts. Going back to the discussion of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and its fake noise and fake shifting, a number of companies have programmed "gears" into their CVTs, even providing paddle shifters.
