Hi All,
What kind of socks should I be wearing when using my road shoes (Sidi Genius 4). Can I wear my reg white sport socks, or is it much better to wear the expensive special road socks.

BTW, I've really gotten into the sock thing lately. There are some really cool designs @ your LBS. In fact, I'm @ work now, but I'm sporting a pair of rasta striped socks underneath my pants. No one knows but me!

Whenever the subject of socks comes up, I always put in my plug for Smartwool wool (obviously) socks. I wear them year round, and find them great for wicking, comfort, and lack-of-stink. Sorry, no neato grafix on them, though.

Smartwool socks DO NOT ITCH, because they are made from MERINO WOOL , (good stuff Maynard). Wool keeps you warm when it's cold (AND WET) and cool when it's hot, and slides in and out of the shoes real easy and doesn't bunch up and/or cause "hot-spots" and blisters.
(Wool Jerseys and underlayers are great too!)

Personally I like DeFeet aireators.
Lots of neat graphics and I don't have a
lot of problems with sweat/stinky feet.
I did have a pair of coolmax socks which

I'm 100% for DeFeet. DeFeet socks are quality. I have numerous pairs, and they don't even look worn. They're cool in heat, and I even wear them in winter (underneath overshoes, of course).
I tried a pair of Smartwool. They're alright, but after one winter's wear, they were paper thin, and had to be thrown out.

i am into defeet also.
about wool socks though: are they thick as to cause problems with my perfectly fitting shoe? i've heard the raves for years, but seem to always gravitate towards the thinner defeet.

I have not seen them in a long time, but when I used to backpack and climb, there was a sock called, I think, the Norwegian RagSock? They were expensive and usually were only found in top-notch outdoor/camping shops. They were made from a very dense pure wool fibre, that had super wicking properties. The toe and heel areas were reinforced to prevent 'slippage' by the foot so as to minimise blisters being formed. All in all a great sock, one of the best I ever saw.
In the absence of that, any natural fibre is surely better than anything manufactured?
