Best drink for Long Rides???
I have been drinking only water on my long rides and I would like to start drinking something else.
What else is a good drink that I can put in a camel pack?

Um...Can you please answer my question and not get off topic. Red bulls are bad for you they're not something you should drink on a ride. Please stay on topic or I will have to report you for having no point and being off topic.

Wow, you're not encouraging people to help you out any. Someone suggests something and you get snippy about it. Red bulls work fine for some people and if you dont want to drink them that's you're prerogative. Just dont expect much help in the future from the same people you snap at. With that said, water should go in your camelbak unless you keep a dedicated bladder for flavored drinks. You'll stain it. I like Cytomax Peach flavor... but you may dislike the sugar in that too. If all you want is complex carbs go liquify some oatmeal and drink that.

Hey, someone might have been impressed and just wanted to shoot you a compliment. Anyways, you need to try them out yourself. People tolerate things differently. Look up the different brands and see what they advertise (not all necessarily true). Then do some mixing and see how much water you want in your blend... different people taste things differently. If you can find some people who ride around you, ask them. They may be willing to give up a scoop of their drink mix for you to try. Just dont shoot them if you dont like it.

I know a drink thats great for riding, although its not sold in the U.S. Its called Lucocazad. Im 15 too... Hey just a little bit of advice dont be tight-assed about reporting... GO AHEAD and report me if your going too! The forum is a casual place...
You can order Lucocazad from Europe its a tad expensive but gives you a great energy boost without the effects of caffine and sugar on a long ride.

I wouldn’t go into the just caffeine drinks unless you just want a temporary “feel good” moment during some point of the ride. You’ll likely get a big rise and then an even bigger fall. Caffeine raises your heart rate and blood pressure and will cause you to need to urinate and possibly drop a deuce if you intake too much (this is just simple anatomy b/c these are your body’s overpressure systems). You can mix caffeine for a kick with other things like OJ or Gatorade, but only in limited amounts. The caffeine hit you’ll get is almost completely synthetic and will wear off quickly – sort of like a drug (well just like one b/c it is a kind of drug). That’s why it’s a controlled substance on the professional scene. I’ve been known to mix a little coffee, coke, or something with lots of caffeine into just about any drink to cover me when my legs are going out like a “bridge” (only in a small bottle). Across the bridge (the caffeine) is where my normal drink (thick Gatorade in my case) has begun to take over. I ALWAYS, however, have a large bottle of simple tasty H2O to do what is most important, keep me hydrated.
As far as the carbonation goes, just shake it out of the drink to get rid of it (usually when you mix it into a drink it’ll fizz out on its own). I’ve have heard that the carbonation can limit your body’s ability to carry oxygen in your blood, but I have not confirmed this.
One last thought. For hydration water is the best solution. For energy, I believe that something more solid is the way to go (energy bar, goo, etc.) But again, watch out for the caffeine in these as well, and take small bites.

on rides in the 40 to 50mile range, I take a bottle of 24oz water bottle and a 24oz powerade... although I just recently switched to accelerade... it's better for endurance and muscle recovery...
I'm currently torn about Accelerade (NOT mixed full strength, they're terrible tasting at full strength... I mix it at about 3/4th strength... they taste much better and still do the job)... I also like the taste of the Gatorade endurance so I'm going to use both and see how they do.
Accelerade does seem to be popular and has protein, as well as the electrolytes and such... you really need to just buy a few and try them out... check the links others have posted and go to performancebike.com and into their nutrition section for some more help.
there will never be a consensus on the best drinks... just gotta try a few and decide for yourself. BUT, gatorade and water is bettre than water alone, and you can get gatorade pretty much anywhere.

[QUOTE=puddin' legs]There are many drinks. Read, research. Try different things. Not everything will work for you. Trail and error.QUOTE]
Ditto........ As a marathon runner, I tried most energy drinks and gels and settled for a couple that were pleasing to my taste, gave me a sustained energy boost, provided the necessary electrolytes and were compatible with my GI system. Ultima and E-Fuel were the drink mixes and E Gel and GU were the gels. Also used Endurox and Slim Fast for recovery drinks.

Gatorade diluted 50% with water; it's cheap at about 10cents a bottle (if you buy the powder form), and it's proven.
