Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I had one good 200 mile week ... otherwise I fluctuated from 150 to 185.

Total for the month: 690 miles

september's weather has been great here in northern virginia. very little rain, low humidity, and moderate temperatures.

after my 52 miles today (leaving in the next 1/2 hour) my months total will be 964 miles. great month.

To little for my taste. Ive got maybe 1200 this season ive only had about 6 weeks ride time though. Im sure you guessed im a distance rider more than a speed rider. I do 3 7 mile runs a day min with a larger 40 mile ride to 2 40 mile rides weekly. I do the silver creek no less than 2 times a day even on days i do a 40. Each full run to silver creek roads and parking lots is 7 miles. So i do about 185 to 213 miles a week. Next season i hope to be doing multiple laps in the park 3 x a day and 3 laps per and always 2 40+ runs a week. Basically i want to add at least 50% more miles a week. If i get one of the jobs i want at the local bike shops next season ill be doing between 25 and 40 miles comuting a day 5 to 6 days weekly + 2x 3 lap runs at silver creek (about 12 miles per run). That will get me to the 300 miles a week mark. In other words 4600+ miles in a season. Back as little as 4 to 5 years ago i was doing 4k to 7k miles in one season. Im in better shape now at 33 than i was back then (much better shape). Now id never be a good racer i dont think and it dont bother me one bit. I can out ride most near me distance wise and most near me can out do me in speed easly.

Oh milage this month is about 1/3 my total

Not a good month at all for me. After a century in ther first week in which I screwed up my knee, did a couple rides and then got sick for the last week+. I had been doing 100-150+ miles/week since May until now. Plus, the daylight seems to really be plummeting.

Looking forward to a good weekend, though.

I did 7000 miles in September but had to take the last two weeks off because one of my legs got eaten by a portugese cocker spaniel while doing hill sprints on my handmade carbon unicycle. Normally I average 78000.

Seriously though I have a mate in England who trains for 23 hours a week and is a category level 1 mountain biker. That's insane although he does want to be a pro/elite rider. Normally I average about 500 but I want to double that this winter base training.

94 miles. Lowest month since getting the new bike. But I did pass 1,000 for the season during September.

September was a crummy month for me. A full 15 days of not riding, thanks to getting sick, traveling, and feeling generally not well. Maybe I overtrained a little in August. The last time I was off the bike that long, I had a broken hip.

703 miles, 57,000' vertical.

But I'm starting to feel better. Grizzly Century tomorrow.

Hmmm....maybe I won't be hitting even 130 miles for the month, as my lower back started hurting a few hours ago. Dammit. Always seems to be something.....laying here with a heating pad, hoping it'll subside in a few hours.

my legs are fine no worries on that front. got a dodgy shoulder, following a car acidednt. ive been on the turbo all year mate, basicly did my road training on that. but iv now been given the green light to ride the roads, after some mods is not to bad, but its still sore after, so not quitee upto full mileage yet.

So now need to get me cornering speed back.

I only got in 277 so far, but we had a hurricane threat last week that kept me off the road for an entire weekend... It'll be 300 even after my ride tonight.

Probably a little under 250 for me ... didn't have a bike computer for the first few rounds with my new roadie and there were also a few trips with the mountain bike that weren't recorded. I hope October goes well, I'm looking for more weekend trips

Fixed gear 105 (only had it for a week so this will increase)
Mtn bike 243.8
Road bike 530

Total 878.8 but will hit 900 before the day is over. Not bad for only being back on a bike for 9 weeks after 15 years off.

More happy about the 200 miles my wife put in her first month of riding...good job honey!
