Titanium vs. Aluminum Frames

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: Time ADH01, Merlin Extra Light, Orbea Orca, Ritchey Outback,Tomac Revolver Mountain Bike, Cannondale Crit 3.0 now used for time trials.

For the OP, given that you are 19, on a budget, still have school to pay for, etc, I would go with an aluminum frame, carbon fork and perhaps one with a carbon seat stay. You should be able to find a good price on one of these frames as they are less popular now than 10 years ago; everyone wants full carbon frames and that is what a lot of the manufactures are offering. Don't ask me which model, but look at a Cannondale frame for example.

He did just that. He should be 29 now.

Was that a joke also?

Here is a pic of my 2010 Trek 2.3 aluminum. I love it, but the ride is a bit firm.

I have never tried Ti, but I would sure like to.

Heh... someone needs to come up with a board tweak that adds cobwebs.

I anyone could give me a quick run down of their experiences with these two materials, I would greatly appreciate it. I haven't got any experience with road bikes myself, and thus am not well equipped to make a purchasing decision without more info.

Thanks.

What is your budget? I also live in Canada so I know the market pretty damn well here (mostly in Ottawa) but I have good idea of how Kingston is as well. Aluminum will always cost less unless you somehow get lucky and find a bike that fits online for less (don't forget shipping).

Start asking other cyclists (the ones with full jerseys and such) and ask them for an LBS that they recommend in your area. Go for a ride Titanium and Aluminum and make up your own mind.

Would you like that in 2000 dollars, or adjusted for inflation?
