I had an absolutely maddening creak on my LeMond, more or less associated with heavy force on the cranks, that appeared when the stock Bontrager Race Lite wheels were upgraded to Race XXX Lites. The LMB mechanic and I went through several iterations looking at the cranks and the rear wheel until he suggested swapping out the rear skewer. New (titanium) XXX Lite skewer - creak, creak, creak. Old Race Lite skewer - blessed silence. Go figure.
