Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone use totalcycling.com?

I have been looking around on this website for a while, thinking about maybe buying a colnago E1 or C50 from them, got a couple questions first.

1) Has anyone successfully used them before, is it a legit site?

2) What is the deal in terms of duty prices for getting stuff to the states?

3) Anyone know a cheaper place or better place to purchase a Colnago

4) The E1 comes with an Italian BB, is that usable in the states or do i need english?

Any questions that you can answer would be much appreciated, thanks.

Used them 4 or 5 times... for parts and some clothing.. Each time I ordered they sent it buy mail.. and I think they marked it gifts.. so no duty was due..

I have used them multiple times too. Only paid duty once on a Chorus group. They try there best to keep you from paying duty.

Don't worry about the Italian. It is just as common as English.

I've used them - and they're fine - no probs.
I think the gifts thing is to try and speed it through customs / avoid import tax. When I buy from the US a similar thing happens.

Here is a link to information on import tax:
https://www.totalcycling.com/article/...a-de624a3471a7

For most stuff it doesn't appear to be a problem

a question on totalcycling.. I ordered three days ago and the status for my shipment is still "pending." From searching the subject I've seen that most people have gotten their orders from totalcycling in less than a week from time of ordering.

I've emailed them several times and haven't gotten a response. Should I wait a little while longer or follow up more thoroughly?

You could try calling them, but I wouldn't worry. They're legit, and very nice guys from what I remember... my phone conversation with them was one of the better customer support calls I've ever had.

Could just be a glitch in the website. They are a good outfit though so I woudn't worry too much, unless you are in a rush...

yeah, I kind of am in a rush. Fork and wheels get here on Monday. I have everything else but deraillures, cassette, shifters, and crank, which I ordered from totalcycles. It's been four days and my billing information hasn't come through my bank and the order status on the website is still "pending." I still have not recieved a response to any of my emails, and it is starting to irritate me. I wanted this bike built on Monday so I could ride on Tuesday

I just bought a C50 from them. While the frame was maybe $1550-1160 less than getting it in the US, it's pretty much the standard price in Europe (around $2900). But since they are in England it's easy dealing with them since they speak English.

It took around 4-5 days for the charge to post to my credit card, but I didn't care, as the exchange rate on the dollar improved and I saved $95!

They answered every e-mail I sent them. It took around 1.5 weeks to get the frame from them sent to Japan by Japanese courier, as far as I can tell. I paid $95 (4%) customs tax but Japan is pretty strict on this. The shipping box was in way better condition than if it went US Mail. Only thing is the shipping charge was a stiff $250!

But anybody's crazy to get a Colnago in the US. So I paid around $3250 for the frame, but that included shipping to my door and everything was legal beagle. I tried to get the frame from my LBS in the US and the price was $4400! Add 4.25% sales tax or freight to Japan and it gets expensive in a hurry.

The only problem is warrantee, since if there is a problem you have to ship the frame back to England. But the money I saved I could buy a Record groupset so I have no regrets.

So you order your parts from another country when you have a deadline?

My order with them has been pending for 6 days now, no response to an e-mail I sent them, no charge on my card, nadda. And the product I ordered is no longer on their website.
So, I am getting a little worried.

check your email.. I just got one saying something to the extent of "thank you for shopping with us, but we oversold your item."

I'm severely disappointed as when I purchased my groupset, there were four in stock. Something makes me think that they didn't really process my order when they should have and as a result, someone else got the products that should have been mine. I didn't wait a week to find out that they can't give me what they were supposed to. This has had adverse affects since I was relying on the low price of that groupset to be able to build my bike. Now I'll have to wait at least another month if not two to finish my build. Sad day.

From the research I did, most people in the states recieved their items in six business days from the time of ordering. That's fast in my opinion, and that's what I was trusting would be my case as well.
