1999 LeMond Zurich - Installed Chris King Headset, Steel Ritchey Fork, Salsa Stem, Ritchey Seat Post, Clip Ons, and a few Red Bits here and there. It has been very fun.

This thread is still chugging along? I probably posted this a few years ago, but have no recollection -- so here it is (perhaps) again:

I've finally got some proper photos to show. Almost all new components. I had always wondered what these 853 rode like when they were new, and now I know: brilliantly.

My 'new' Lemond 2005 etape

59cm frame in good condition.
Mix and match of components but it works for me.
2x9 Sensah ignite shifters.

What do you think of the Sensah shifters? I have Sensah Empire 2x10 on one of my bikes and after putting more miles on it I often find that when I want to go up the cassette it ends up shifting down instead. For the record, I have SRAM Force and Rival on two other bikes and do not have the same issue with those DoubleTap levers.

Only used them on a couple of rides so far so still getting used to them.
I did get the up/down problem on a few shifts, I assumed that it was just a case of getting used to how they work.
My impression is when shifting 'up' the cassette to a slower/easier gear the derailleur moves and the gear shifts but the lever still needs to be pushed a bit further to actually click and lock it in, otherwise you release the shifter and then it moves the derailleur the other way and drops to a faster/harder gear.

Finished rebuilding a Zurich I got from a friend a few months back. Bought it for $200 as a complete bike but without wheels. Bought the wheelset for 100 bucks and the stem for another 40 or so plus new cables, housing, tires, tubes and bar tape. All in probably about $400, probably about what it's worth.
Bike is a bit rough around the edges as it's got a lot of miles but no dents or cracks. Was originally a 2x9 drivetrain but swapped it out for the 3x9 on a LeMond Buenos Aires I got form the same friend at the same time, still all Ultegra 6500.
Drivetrain an components were FILTHY, like the chain was black, but cleaned up well. Rear shifter wasn't working correctly consistently despite thorough cleaning so I replaced it with a 5500 shifter I had laying around. Front shifter was working fine.
Since it didn't come with wheels I had to get a cassette. Found an alright looking 7700 11-27 cassette at the local bike recyclerly. Cheap weight savings.
The stem and bars on the bike were not original and the stem in particular was hideous so both were replaced. Stem is obviously an older Syncros and bars are some Nitto's I found at the same recyclerly as the cassette.
Hubs are older SunRace, seem to be about Shimano 105 quality but with cartridge bearings and are laced to Mavic Open Pro's. Should serve me well for a long time.
Pedals are a pair of Crank Bros Candy 3's I've had kicking around for a while.
Basically everything else is 6500 era Ultegra.

I'll post up my LeMonds soon. I started with a 2001 Victoire and thought that'd be the end of it. It turns out it was only the beginning. Once I have a bit of downtime I'll post them all.

I love this and must admit that it was inspiration for my 2001 Zurich single speed project. I'm sending the frame off to be powder coated and the build will be made up of a bunch of NOS/used/spare parts from other projects.

My 97 Alpe d'Huez.

Bought it used in 99 or 00. I'm still seriously in love with this bike.

My wife's and my '06 Reno.

freeranger 04-15-26 06:25 AM

A friend's 2002 (I think) Alpe d'Huez. Tho in good shape, he's been unable to practically give it away. It is small, and I guess the age has something to do with it. Offered to by it for my wife, but she likes her Reno and didn't want to buy another bike. Neither of us gets to ride as much as we'd like these days.

You'll love the wheel upgrade. Best thing I did to my Zurich.

I just picked up a 2004 Zurich that is carbon and blue with silver
