Robin Williams bought a Lemond Sarthe at a LBS while he was filming a movie here.
nanu-nanu.

I don't know what it is about LeMond's for sure but they have always cought my eye. The LBS that I like to go to carries LeMond. I was actually considering picking one up this summer until I learned that they closed their doors a few days ago. Too bad, nobody else around here carried LeMond's.

I LOVE my Lemond bike, but is anyone else worried about the direction that Greg Lemond himself is taking with regard to cycling and his comments on Lance recently? ;p

Nope...don't know, don't care. I have enough of my own issues to concern myself with, rather than worry about the relationship between two men that I have never met, and likely, never will. Having said that. I have always been a fan of Greg LeMond. I didn't even know there was such a thing as LeMond bikes til I began shopping for a new road bike last February. I loved the looks of them from the minute I saw them, except for the one I ended up getting.....which has since become very attractive to me.

Cheers,

Brian

So baj, are you saying that you did not like your bike at forst? I just pulled up a picture of the one at the LeMond site and I think it is very very SEXY! Is yours the same color scheme as the one shown?

Also, I am looking to do something to my Reno to kind of personalize it, any suggestions????

I doubt it...mine is a 2004 Tourmalet...brushed aluminum and green. Green is not one of my favourite colours but it has since grown on me. I haven't done anything to "personalize" its appearance, but I do plan on some green bar tape and some green tires (if I can ever find THEM!). I like the Renos. I wanted an '04 because I liked the white/red paint scheme, but my shop didn't have any and I was tired of waiting. Plus they gave me a really good deal on this one ($850 new).

Maybe some different bar tape (like camo pattern or something like that) for your bike would be cool. Maybe even some silver sidewalled tires.

Cheers,

Brian

Wanna trade "STRAIGHT UP?" My Reno for your Tourmalet?:D

I love the paint scheme on your bike!

LOL!! Not a chance...but thanks for the props. It is funny though, as I said before...I really did not like the colour scheme on this bike until a few weeks after I got it. Green has never been one of my favourite colours. I have to say now that it has grown on me, I think it is one of the most attractive bikes I have seen out on the roads. The reason I got it was the deal the shop gave me on it. Plus the test ride was just awesome. I think I will be keeping it for a while longer.

How are you liking that Reno? If My shop had the '04 or '05 in stock (white and red scheme) I would be riding a Reno today. Of the '06 LeMond aluminum models, the Reno is the only one I liked the looks of at all.

Cheers,

Brian

Baj, take a loot at this Cinelli bartape. The yellow, red, and green striped tape would look great on your bike. Or, the splash style too. -D42

Yeah that striped tape may be cool...I will have to take a look into that.

Thanks for the tip,

I am loving the Reno so far, I wrecked it the other day but I think that everything is ok. The wheels just may be a bit out of true, I am taking it to the LBS today to have them look at it. I am still searching for something to do to my bike to personalize it. I think I have narrowed it down to some blue/red/silver bar tape or some blue/red/silver tires.

Wow..sorry about the wreck. Glad to hear that you, and the bike are okay. I have been fortunate not to crash yet....knock on wood. I think the bar tape would be the easiest route to personalize your bike...the tires would look cool too. I have an outift near me here in NJ that offers custom painting for something like $139...but I am not ready to go that route yet. If I ever did, I think I would go yellow, and keep the green banding....I like yellow.

Cheers,

Brian

There ya go!!

Did you get your bike to the shop yet?
I just read your crash post...it sounds okay...it may be a good idea to invest and a spare wheelset for such a situation....

Cool bartape eh?

Cheers,

Brian

I was out of town all weekend so I could not take it to the shop immediatley, so I will take it today. It has been killing me just looking at my bike and not being able to ride it, the weather here has been PERFECT. :(

So far I have ridden all sorts of alums, alum/carbons, carbons, ect. and this thing seems to speak to me like no other. One amusing note, I had the LBS weigh the Sarthe against the all carbon Trek 5200. Guess which one was two pounds heavier?

From your post I am guessing the 5200, which I really doubt unless the Sarthe was very small and the 5200 large, then still maybe not. My 57cm BA weighed 21 lbs and my 56cm Roubaix is almost 19. ;)

larrytx01 03-02-06 01:27 PM

The Sarthe was a 57 and the Trek 5200 was a 58 or 59, really not too much difference. I was suprized as well. I believe the difference was the Ultegra vs. 105/mix and lower end wheels. I looked at a Chambery today (59) and it was a tad over 20lbs with full Ultegra which was a suprize as well. The bottom line is, there seems for me to be no real reason not to get steel over the other Alum/Carbon bikes at there. I am not trying to compete at the 10/10 level with a $5K all carbon bike and the ride of that Sarthe has yet to be beaten. I think it would be fun though to outfit the Sarthe with some carbon parts like handlebars, stem, Toupe seat and pedals just to see if you could drop below 18lbs.

atbman 03-02-06 02:58 PM

What a pity that Greg never set up a charity ride.

The obvious slogan?

If life gives you Lemonds, make Lemondaid

I think that it would be pretty easy to get the Sarthe under 18 lbs. seeing that it is 18 pounds something when it's delivered (w/o peddles). My '06 Sarthe (51 cm) now weights 9.0 kg (+- 20 grams) which is a hair under 20 lbs and thats with Brooks Team Pro 520 gr., Time ATAC peddles 440 gr., Bottle cages 100 gr., Cateye computer 50 gr. plus Ultegra triple upgrade, Conti GP 4-seasons, 12-27 cassette and rustproofing spray (maybe 30 gr. after it's dryed?). And it's still under 20 lbs.

They should both be spec'd the same, Ultegra and Race wheels. If they aren't the websites are wrong as they show both being spec'd exactly the same. ;) Out of curiousity what did you see the weights of the two being???
