I read a post somewhere about someone saying they use spray-on furniture wax all over their bike to keep it shiny and prevent dirt from collecting as easily. I usually use Turtle wax, but the spray-on stuff might be easier to use. Not sure.
Does anyone else use it?
Does it really help keep dust/dirt from building up so easily all over the frame?
I wonder if it would keep my commuter cleaner, longer?

Pledge is great, I use it all the time. It is especially good on titanium frames.

Pledge is fine for mere mortals, but the president of the OCP needs to ramp it up from there my friend. YOU only using Pledge would be like.....well, I don't know but....here's just an example of what I use...(This is where my classic car hobby comes in handy--I live with this stuff during summer and use it on my Klein too:
--Wizzards "Mist 'N Shine"....spray it on the frame and wipe it down=Awesome look.
--Mothers chrome polish....rub it on the chrome stuff=ummmmm purdy.
--Turtle Wax Black Chrome....rub it on the any black stuff=see above.
--Armour All....on the tires, but the flat stuff, not that wet look crap!
Cleaning Tip:
Remember the water bottles. Nothing looks worse than a beautiful OCP ride all dressed up, and then as you head out you throw a couple of ugly, dirty water bottles in the cages.

Spray furniture polish like Pledge, is easier and faster than wiping or paste wax. You can just spray it on and wipe down the bike. There is no part of the bike that will be harmed by it. But, keep it off the saddle, it can make the saddle squeak when you pedal. It does not even hurt the brakes or tires. It makes the tires look nice but is not very slippery on rubber when dry. It's what many bike shops use and recommend due to decades of experience. Here's why...
Most wax made for cars is MUCH too abrasive for the amount of paint on a bicycle. Don't try it if you don't know how abrasive it is.
Don't use Armour all on a bike. It makes the tires and the brake pads slippery and stays around for a while. It's dangerous. It can permanently ruin a saddle too.
Chrome polish can take the paint off of a bike too. Very little chrome on a modern bike.
1) do no harm
2) have a clean bike.
The Pledge keeps the bike a little cleaner a little longer.

Always pledge exposed frontal areas, when you drive with your bike on your roof too... it will help keeping the bug juice from eating the paint.

Nothing slippery on water bottles like wax or Armour All please ! I might be behind you some day!
Abrasives like chrome polish or car rubbing compound can get the marks off the bottles and not be too slippery.
Quick Glo is probably the best.
Chrome on a modern bike? Maybe the front derailleur cage...some low end parts. Maybe some springs?
What else **********??
Don't use chrome polish on clear coated aluminum for a long time.
Car use is very different from bicycle use.

Armour All on tires. OOOOOOOO......
Hip, That is extremely dangerous. Whatever you do, be very careful not to get any Armour All on the tread. It has a base of wax, and is extremely slippery, even the regular stuff. If you take a sharp turn with a fresh coat of that stuff on or even near the tread, you are looking to get another hip. (OUCH!!!)
Just a warning. As a matter of fact, I think it even says on the bottle, "Danger, do not apply to tire tread. Only apply to sidewalls."
My wife has tons of Pledge, I may give it a shot.

- i buy the orange furniture polish in the spray can at the local dollar store
- it was recommended by the wrench at the LBS, works great, and a can lasts a long time!

My wife sees me walking down the hall with the can of Pledge and a towell. And says "It's great to see you doing some cleaning around the house without being asked".
Uh...yeah...I was going to polish the dinner table and coffee tables.

Not happening. Pledge, or any other spray on wax, contains oils, which look really nice and shiny at first, but will attract dust and dirt. Or rather, dust and dirt will stick to the oils in the wax. The dirt and dust is abrasive, when you wipe the dust and dirt off, you are scratching the clear coat. It might take awhile, but eventually it will dull the finish on your bike. If you really want to protect the clear coat finish on your bike, sponge it off with warm water and some dish soap first(easy with the hose or any high pressure water source), use something like Super Glaze, from the Wax shop. It's not cheap, but it contains no abrasives, dries very quickly, and leaves no oily residue, so there's very little for dirt to stick to. When you use oily, spray-on waxes, it's like adding a temporary coat of clear coat. It'll look good for a little bit, but over time all the abrasives (dirt) that you wipe off will begin to dull the finish just like you used a piece of sandpaper on it. Take it from someone who has detailed a lot of Harleys.

I still have a can of Finish Line frame-polish but I've used Pledge in the past. One other trick is to use Pam on your MTB or any bike that might be seeing a bit of mud/grime.

Dish soap will remove any wax on a car. As a former auto detailer.... dish soap = bad. I use pledge at times, and once or twice a year take put on a nice coat of good auto wax. I use a product called P&S ultracoat.

I also remember seeing TV ads about " No waxy build up" for some furniture polish years ago. Maybe they changed the wax in a way that helps? Some bike shops do thousands of bikes this way.
