I am hoping somebody can assist me with this. I have a COLNAGO CT1 Titanium. It is older bike ~2002 I think. I generally love the ride, feel, handling of the bike, but recently in the last couple of months it has produced a truely nasty grinding/growning sound from the bottom bracket area. I ride with a large group most saturdays - everyone can hear it. I have replaced the grease in the BB twice, it is ok for only a few days and then returns. My LBS says it is "common to Titanium frames" and it is the sound of the Titanium BB thread on the Aluminium of the BB cups. Can anyone confirm this is true? Can I do anything about it? LBS says "nothing you can do it will always return" therefore "would you like to buy this carbon frame"?? Can anyone help?
Be sure every single BB thread has a little anti seize or grease in it. Even if you have to put too much on and then wipe off the excess make sure there is a little in each thread valley. Putting some on the entry threads and assuming it spreads to the other threads as they pass over that grease does not get all the threads. |
Here's my Litespeed Solano with new Michelin Pro Race 3s in red. This has been a fantastic bike so far and I traded in a Vortex which I didn't like for this one. I also owned a Litespeed Classic which I recently sold but was a great bike too.
With the upgrades (Aspide fx saddle, Easton slx fork, Easton carbon bars (180 grams) and carbon seatpost, this bike is 16 lbs 11 ounces complete. Not too shabby. The fork was a HUGE weight savings (290 grams cut). I dig my carbon bikes, but nothing feels as smooth as titanium on the road. http://gallery.roadbikereview.com/da...500/LSeast.JPG |

There have been some very good suggestions and I'd like to add another. Rather than plumber's tape or grease on the thread, coat the threads with a titanium specific anti-seize (Finish-Line makes some good stuff). Cooked bearings are another real possibility. I can see where the "checking for hairline cracks" is going as well, I'll add that it looks like a bonded CF rear triangle...so I'd be checking the bond area where the chainstays meet the bottom bracket. |

[QUOTE=fa63;8941678]Sexy; except for the wheels. I think a more traditional build would compliment the bike better.
Thanks. Those are the fast wheels. I have a set of custom built Campy Chorus hubs 32 hole 3X with Sun Assault rims and Conti GP4000S for training. I waiting for the Ritchey "Wet White" WCS seatpost to complete to euro look. |

Here's my 2000 Litespeed Tuscany that I built over the winter. Not as fancy as most of your rides, but it gets the job done. I'm not gonna flip it.

By the way, the Edge fork looks great paired with that frame. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a10...tsreynolds.jpg |
Here is one you may not have seen before,
or at least in this configuration.
2003 Airborne Spectre tri bike setup as a road bike. This configuration works because the ST angle is 75 degrees, not tri hardcore, and I like a sharper road ST angle. I built this up for longer rides and some time in the mountains this summer (there is always an excuse to build up a new bike). I incorporated broader parameters for these purposes -- 50x34 compact crank; 11-28 cassette; shorter more upright cockpit; barends for simplicity and I had them around. Oh and I kinda dig the funky fairings, even if they don't do anything. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3.../IMG_0055r.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...IMG_0059-1.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...IMG_0060-1.jpg |

the wound up i bought doesn't fit :( back to the ouzo pro
http://i437.photobucket.com/albums/q...ns/onbike1.jpg i'll post more pics once i sort out the hideous stem situation. been waiting for some decent 90mm stem to pop up on the bay. Light build, but heavy wheels lol. I have some velocity aeroheads that'll probably build up a lighter set and still be pretty durable. |

Why doesn't the Wound Up fit? What wheels? Equipe? And which level Lynskey? Looks like a 330? |

My new Lynskey R330 build:
- R330 Brushed Medium - Alpha Q GS-10 fork - Chris King headset - SRAM Red group - Ritchey WCS 4-axis stem and WCS Logic II bars - Ritchey WCS Carbon seat post - Selle Italia Kit Carbonio Flow saddle - Easton Circuit wheelset (the stockers from my R3) I'll chuck it on the scales once I sort out some pedals and a more permanent wheelset. I'm looking forward to the first ride, I've still got a few more weeks until my collarbone is fully healed... http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2484/...de446be4_b.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2561/...7bac0a9d_b.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2550/...bfaca0c4_b.jpg |
