Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I had so much fun on that ride last year. I can't wait to do it again on my new bike! I might be getting a job with a lot of travel though, so hopefully if I do, I won't be out of town!

I'm going to give a thumbs up, and make it to the fun this year. Might try to get a friend, or two to come along also.

edit-- AND! I just registered. The only thing left is airfare and car....

The wife and I are considering this...need to check for schedule conflicts. This is our first year riding, but we are trying to do a couple of big rides; this would be a nice addition to our plans of doing the Seagull.

I'm going to wait til we're a little closer to register. Jess just got a killer job that involves a lot of travel, so I don't know if we'll both be doing it, or if it'll be just me.

Don't worry dex, you'll still have a bike.

I plan to be the largest and slowest rider completing the metric...

I am attempting a metric Saturday, and will be hoping to complete a Century for the Livestrong Challenge in Philadelphia in September, so this one in between should be a good test to see if my conditioning is moving in the right direction. Plus by August, I hope to be riding my touring bike instead of the comfort bike I will be riding this weekend.

It's all good! I always ride slow too! It's a fun ride, not a race.

To give you guys an idea how "seriously" we rode it last year, if I remember correctly my final average was around 12mph (and I think that's high) --and that included some high-tailing Grasschopper and I did to catch the group near the end of the ride. In other words, we're gonna enjoy the day

I'm planning to be there too! Just look for the guy with the whitest legs in the group (of 2,000 or more).

Yipppppeeeeee! I'm in, of course - maybe I'll come down and stay with you fine folks this year, even though I'm only about 1/2 hour away.

15 lbs less of me to haul around too, feels pretty great. And . . . the 12 mph avg has some justification, I think. . . it was freakin' HOT, remember? Lunch on the hillside in the shade felt waaaaaay too good to waste, and what kind of human beings would we be if we'd ignored the little girls with the lemonade stands??

I'll bet we'll hear from MikeR again. . . I had the pleasure of riding a metric here in Hershey with him in April; he's doing great, and it was great to see him.

So who are we missing? Kirke. . . Bibi and Spongedad . . . Gravityslip Jason . . . Cycledeac Aaron (not sure if he's back in the country or not. . . and I'll see "Phil the Non-BF'er" tomorrow, will ask him about it.

Mirona, get ready with the razor

Beth
