Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeay, I'm so glad you're going Beth! Apparently my bike arrived today, so I should have it all set up by the weekend. Can't wait to try it out!

Unfortunately, I think Bibi and I will be in Connecticut doing a small group ride with a bunch of friends from college. Otherwise, we'd have been there with a buddy of mine from Bucks county.

Edit: Why do I even post without checking with Bibi? Looks like the CT ride is the next weekend. So we should be there, assuming we can stash the kids at my parents house.

I just received the flyer in the mail, but no mention of ice cream to juggle this year????

I'm in the "probably will be there" stage. It was tons of fun last year.

Not all will be able to make it- As you can see- some of us live a bit of distance away.

This is where some of the Other forums might have a lead-- A virtual ride. Those that cannot make it to this ride to do the equivalent distance- on the day in their own locality.- By the way- How many riders will take part on the actual ride? With the virtual ride- you can double the riders.

You mean this lady? Mirona, this was one of your shots . . . Superdex, I do believe.

Jugglerdave! Glad you're considering the ride once again . . .

Stapfam, you mean no trip across the pond to ride the covered bridges of Central PA**********??? Hmmmmmphhhhhh! Kidding . . . this ride last year attracted a minimum of about 3,000 folks, touring some of the most beautiful countryside around. It was an honor and a privilege to meet and ride with these bikeforums folks on what I consider to be the highlight of last year's season; can't wait to do it again this year!

Great! Glad you checked with Bibi, it wouldn't be the same without her. I've put PM's out for Kirke and MikeR, and will see if I can find Cycledeac Aaron . . . I found out that Phil won't be there (I think he's one of the only ones who hung with Gravityslip Jason), but a few other folks I ride with in the Harrisburg club will be coming along to play this year.

I'm ready . . .

Either superdex or Kloden. I can never tell them apart.

Actually, the Zipp wheel rep for this area looks even more like Kloden than dex does, if you can imagine that being possible. In addition to the basic facial features, he even had the gangly facial hair and sinewy scrawn thing downpat too.

I heard that the Tour de Cure covered many of the same roads as the Three Creeks Century that the Harrisburg club puts on... If the covered bridges ride is as nice as the TdC I will definitely enjoy the ride. I am also considering adding the Three Creeks ride to my calendar.

I will be registering for the Covered Bridges ride in the next week or so...

Hey Beth, thanks for waking me up! I almost missed it. I'm checking my schedule and should know in a few days. Sure would be great to see you all again!

Here's a shot from last year's ride. I did'nt take the photo but I love it!

I'll be there too! I'm bringing a friend. This will be Jay's first organized ride. Jay and I need to start the ride as early as possible. We are both very slow and want to do the whole 100k. If the rest of the gang is starting later then you'll see us as you pass, probably before lunch. If the timing is right we can meet for lunch on the hill like last year.

For anyone who doesn't know me - I'll be riding my Red 1984 Trek 720, with wood fenders and a kids license plate on the back that says "Mike"

aaawwww...cute kids!

I love hangin' with the Amish! There was a young Amish man on my unit at Jefferson, and I got to really like his family.

I think I'll start a "what will be be wearing/riding" thread before it starts, so we can be on the lookout for each other. I'll be wearing my usual silver jersey/black shorts, and riding my turquoise '87 Trek 560. Can you say "'80s"? Yeah, baby!

Ok so do we need a who is signed up thread? Mirona's list on this one is from people who were there last year. Also are we going to ride under the same sort of plan as last year in regards to roll out time etc? IMO it worked out pretty well.

Mirona - can we start PM'ing you with confirmation of attendance and attire? Then you can add that information to your first post as an edit. We could also PM you our cell phone numbers if that would make hooking up in the morning easier.

the 'meet next to the big bikeforums sign' trick worked really well. I dunno what I'll be wearing yet, I have to go back and look at cydewaze's Scat I'll be riding and match accordingly...

Jess and I will be signing up soon, and I'm still outfitting superdex's loaner bike with the 48x15 fix gear.

After reading the first few posts, I was thinking to myself that I might want to try this... then my boss walks in and says that I might be going out of town in August... I swear, his timing was uncanny. I haven't had to travel for the last 6 months, and when I first think about going on something like this, in he walks. Hopefully, it won't be anytime during that weekend.
