Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Even presuming to know the sex of someone is dangerous in this day and age. Guessing relationships with others is even more so. Even if someone tells you his/her sex and relationship with another person, you still can't believe what you hear 100% of the time.

Its not about looking, its the language and the thought process thats expressed by the language. And I should qualify it to say married, previously married, married in common law, shacked-up or otherwise coupled in a LTR with someone that could potentially read your BF posts.

Now where did I say anything made anything else OK? There is a difference between acceptance as a stamp of approval and acceptance of the way things are in the real world. Here's the thing...we can only control our own behavior, not that of others. I'm not saying we should tolerate bad behavior, but any ideas that we might be able to 'change' someone is an illusion...people can only change themselves, we can't do it for them. Or shall we invade a few more countries, start a holy war, and spread our version of 'civilization' world-wide?

You also gotta keep your sense of humor when dealing with ugly issues.

How many more do you think we can get in before the '08 election? I'm thinking someone's doing the planning...

Dude, I am so past help that every EMT and doc in the country has me on their 'do not save' lists. Sooo, what's your excuse?

Still waiting for that list of characteristics that screams butch lesbian to you every time. Come on, share your infinite wisdom with us mere mortals and non-butch lesbians.

And just to add further fuel to the "I can tell someone's gay by their appearance" argument. Like cantdrv55, I live in a city with a large and prominent gay population and some of them DO dress and behave in a manner which makes them identifiably gay. I always assumed this was because they wanted you to know their sexuality, and they were quite comfortable with who they are - something which a gay person living Flyspeck, USA might not want to do.

Of course you are not going to be able to pick out every gay person in a 20-mile radius just by eyeballing them, but those that make it obvious are pretty easy to pick - and what is obvious to someone who lives in a city with a large gay population may not seem so to someone who doesn't.

If that's the issue, ride a bent. I've never heard anyone, male or female, mention that as a disadvantage of cycling.

One thing that I think holds many women back is a pervasive fear of being looked at, desired, or judged by people whose opinions really don't matter. Although this happens less with guys, it's hardly unheard of. At a decent percentage of health clubs, it's not unusual for guys to show interest in people they like even if the person of interest is literally wearing nothing and is straight.

Some guys go into a tizzy if another dude looks at or hits on them, but frankly I don't see what the big deal is.

I wish I had this power to identify lesbians by sight. I was with my wife for 11 years before she told me she was a lesbian and left to find a woman to be with. Sure would have saved me a lot of pain, not to mention money. Never would have guessed.

While this was an amusing way to turn the discussion around, it also perpetuates the idea that women do things entirely to attract men. I assure you, most of us don't choose our sports based on the attractiveness of the men involved.

If the OP wants to see pretty women on bikes, he just needs to move to Southern California. I see packs of them every weekend and at every organized ride I go to.

Actually I would say it's kind of the other way around, e.g. it perpetuates the idea that women are not attracted to men who wear Spandex. Misandry Alert!!!

I don't see any implication in that post of women doing things "entirely", or even partially to attract men -- nor do I see that anywhere else in the thread.

Your monitor must be of amazingly high resolution -- I can't seem to be able to read between the lines as well as you to extract so many ideas from posts which don't seem to be there.

Your monitor must be of such LOW resolution that you didn't see the entire statement. What I read from pdxtex was that the number of women cyclists is somehow related to the number of attractive men in the sport. Sure sounds like he was saying that women participate in a sport based on the physical appearance of the men who participate. No special computer equipment required.
