Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

TdF TT suits aero hump?

Looking at pics of some TdF riders after TT. Looks like they wear some type of padding in the suit just behind the rear of the helmet on the back. Prob. for aero purposes.

?

you're partially right.

I'm pretty sure you're talking about the radio that rides have fitted into the skinsuit, just between the top of the back and the butt.

Or if you've seen Bobby Julich, the hump is his Camelbak water pack.

Camelbaks and radios both go under the skinsuit.

Camelbaks? What whimps - I figured they didn't drink when only TTing for an hour or so.

Let's see you not drink for an hour while you are giving it all you got.

Moto GP racers have humps on their suits. But again they are going 100mph+

Sportbike suits have kevlar or polycarb in the back to protect your spine. On a bicycle, it's all aerodynamics.

They may be using the old technique of a sponge soaked in water on the back for cooling. Check out some of the old tour photos. sometimes, the sponges were soaked on cologne, since the alcohol gave a better cooling effect.

Imagine what that must of smelled like!

I wouldn't be looking at a KoM if you're talking about TT's.

I don't think so anymore. I recall something about them being banned but after some aero testing and consideration they're allowing them again.

No in Moto GP thats for aero as well as back... When I was back in racing they did have some padding but if nothing else you can tell by the shape it's all aero.
