Get the black, and deck it out with other UBER-black components and join the stealth carbon club.

This from a man who's had a Cervelo R3 for all of two weeks.

Looks like this will replace the Talon? I like it!

kreator 08-10-06 11:31 PM

That's hot

Chucklehead 08-11-06 01:36 AM

wow, i thought for sure it would get more negative responses:o

I prefer either very functional bikes built the way they are to be the lightest / stiffest / most aero or something very classic with a nice paint job and campy parts. Unfortunately this fails on both counts. I think you'd get bored with it in a year or two.

Sorry, just not my cup of tea.

HAMMER MAN 08-11-06 04:45 AM

unusual with the carbon shaping and it makes it stand out more distinctive than other bikes.
I like it!

Chucklehead 08-11-06 01:14 PM

according to the guys at kestrel, it'll slot in between the talon and evoke.

That would be an excellent price point.

woodcycl 08-11-06 01:30 PM

I actually like the Orange frame! Unusual looking ... yep, I'd go for it too.

For pure poser points, wouldn't it saying "Kestrel" be enough?

Not really. Kestrels are seen among roadie types as a tri bike. It also doesn't help that Kestrel doesn't sponsor any American division 1 pro road teams, or any teams in the euro pro peloton. They do, however, sponsor a few trialtheletes.

On a side note, I think the values of Kestrels are tremendous, especially if you're thinking about buying an aero frame, like a Carbon Soloist. Why not spend thousands less and get a Kestrel Talon SL?

actually, the evoke is a tried and true, hardcore road racer. as a race bike, and for the price, it would be my first choice.

This is true, but then again, for REAL poseur points, why not spend that $ on a Colnago, Time, or something like that? There really isn't much setting the Evoke apart from these other manufacturers (except maybe price). I've never seen anyone drool over an Evoke, but many drool over a Merkx, even though the Evoke may arguably be a technically equivalent bike.

I have a feeling that if Kestrel sponsored a Tour de France-worthy team, the bling value out on the road of Kestrels would go up 100-fold.

voltman 08-11-06 02:51 PM

Are the Talon and Talon SL road bike frames the same as the the Talon tri frames? Do they have the same principle as the Soloist?

Yes, they are exactly the same frame. I don't think the Talon/Talon SL have the same design concept as the Soloist. The Talon/Talon SL was made, first and foremost, as a tri/TT bike (hence the seat tube angle). The road part of the Talon/Talon SL seems like an afterthought. The Soloist was conceived first and foremost as a road bike. I don't think I've ever seen a Soloist built up as a TT bike. That would be a sight to see...

this is why i'm looking into a pinarello F4:13. i'm having a hard time deciding between the hardcore racer and the hardcore poser.

to race: evoke
to pose: F4:13

Split the difference and get a BMC Pro or Team Machine?

Chucklehead 08-11-06 03:17 PM

i don't think i'd have the guts to race the BMC, either. it's only $50 more than the pinarello, and i prefer the looks of the F4:13.

voltman 08-11-06 03:21 PM

How about a LOOK?

Chucklehead 08-11-06 03:28 PM

aren't those made in france?

voltman 08-11-06 03:33 PM

Tunisia, I think. Some are finished in France.
