Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So Im A Bib Convert....

Picked up a pair of Performance Gel Bibs yesterday and wore them out today on my ride. For the money ($39.95 on sale), I figured even if I hated them it wouldn't be any big loss. Tried on and bought a pair of larges. I wasn't sure I was going to like them as I felt like they were sliding down my neck muscles and I figured I'd be yanking at them for my entire ride but didn't work out that way. They are much more comfortable than shorts and about the only downside I can see is figuring out how to use them bathroom with them on.

+1 for bibs!!

I got my first pair of bibs 2 weeks ago and almost started the same thread...
My only regret is that it took me so long to try them.
I still have more shorts but something tells me the bibs will be in higher rotation.

That's pretty much how I feel.. unfortunately bibs are harder to slide by Spousal Unit 1.0 so it's going to take some work to figure out a way to add to my bib collection. I've pretty much decided that the Performance Gel bibs and shorts are the best I've worn.. of course, I haven't sprung for any of the $100+ shorts and bibs either so maybe I'm missing out.

Spousal Unit 1.0? You planning on upgrading? Spousal Unit XP, maybe? Or maybe not, you don't want her to run Windows.

Got my first bib this year after 20+ years of riding/racing. Now regular shorts drive me crazy.

But God help you if you have bathroom needs after you're all dressed with a bib. Oh well.

What size Performance shorts do you wear? I just got my first bibs this week and they are a large also, but they are Voler and were on sale. I have a couple pair of Performance shorts that are medium though so I'm not sure what size bib I would need from Performance?

When she stops responding do you just reboot her?

Large in those also but I do feel like the bibs are a little bigger than the shorts.

Thanks for the info. So you think your bibs fit a little bigger? My Voler Lg bib fits the same as my Performance Md shorts, so I would "guess" I would need a Md in their bib also? Wish there was a Performance close to me...

Once you've gone bib, you never go back.

I have a pair of Nalini pro bibs - very nice, but I love my Performance Gel bibs the best.

As for bodily functions - well the first one isn't bad. Big Business requires removal of the shirt, so I feel like George Costanza.

But what about for big boys. I can't imagine those being comfortable with a belly.

At 5'11" 230, they work for me. I assume its similar to how a girdle works, but I love my bibs. Have 5 pair, want more

I haven't tried bibs yet, but I don't have to adjust my new Cannondale's. With my old shorts, I had to keep on adjusting them and stuff because the legs and waist weren't that tight, and the chamoix was a thin as a cigarette paper, but now that I got some high end shorts, I haven't had to touch them yet, except for when I pulled my cellphone out of the ass pocket to call for a ride after I got my 2nd puncture of the day. I'm NEVER going to buy Continental tires again.

forget about your comfort and think about the comfort of your training partner.

the last thing he/she wants to see is your plumbers butt while they're drafting. bibs solve that delicate issue.

I think they'd be more comfortable - no waist band digging in.

Some bibs have a zip to gain access to the spousal unit.

No biggie. The Bibs are made of strechy Lycra. Just pull the front of the bib down ......all the way down. Trust me on this. It will stretch that far with no ill effects...

May not be an issue where you live but bibs are a bit warmer to wear than shorts. Todays high here is forcast for 100deg and there is no way I am going to wear my bibs on todays ride.
