Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

When dealing with wheels, my first question to the seller would be "do you carry spare parts for the hubs, i.e. pawls, freehub bodies, bearings, etc". If the answer is not a resounding yes, then move on. I have seen far to many "hot new" aftermarket wheelsets come through my shop with proprietary parts that are simply not obtainable from any US source. Novatech, for example. We had a guy come in with a bad freehub body. It was slipping due to a broken pawl. Joytech makes the hubs, but no Joytech distributors can get spares! No source for a part= dead wheel. If a pawl fails on a hub like these, and a suitable replacement can't be had, you end up pitching the wheel and losing $$.

The wheels in question would be race day only, yes? Don't train on light wheels. Buy the heaviest things you can find, and put thornproof tubes in the steel bead tires. You put on your light wheels for the event and you will feel like Superman!

From whom? And do they actually have them? That seems awful cheap.

That's great. I wish more companies cared as much about the after-sale needs of their customers!

To the thread.

BikeWise1 is right on the money. It is very important to have the after-sale support from the manufacturer. As a "direct-to-customer" distribution model, it is our responsibility to have the spare parts available to the athletes. In my opinion, spending $500 for an after market set of wheels better come with great support or why spend the money in the first place. As for the freehub bodies, spokes and nipples, we offer these at our cost as a service to the athlete. In our opinion, support products are not profit centers, rather a service for the athlete who believes in our company.

As a side note, honest feedback supplied by these forums truly helps our company improve our products.

Welcome to the forums and thanks for posting. FYI, I do not buy boutique wheels for all of the reasons that Bikewise1 mentions. Great to see your beliefs on that. Hopefully you will start a trend! When I am in the market for a new set, I will give you all some consideration. Would you all consider doing custom wheel build options? - Spoke lacing, brass nipples, etc?

Jamie,

At this time we do not offer custom wheel builds. However, we are looking into it and may offer this in the near future.

We will be rolling out two new models in early 2007. The new models will compliment our current models and complete our lineup for 2007.

Cheers,

In the market for a new wheelset and came across this brand and this thread. Any experiences with Williams since these last posts? Good? Bad?

I am running a IRD 30 front and DT RR1.2 rear right now, 20/24h and they are holding up very well. The only way I would run the IRD 30 on the rear is if it were 28h or higher which is why I went with the stiffer and heavier RR1.2
