Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ok, here's the handlebars.

And yes, they're pink too.

I think I can see the unmasked parts on those. I like the front bracket for the cyclocomputer. Looking forward to seeing it all unwrapped and installed together.

Well, I am going with white bar tape. So, that will be a good match.

Here's the bars uncovered. I wetsanded off the decals. They turned out pretty good. I like them, and so does she. That's all that matters. Now, I get to start clear coating everything. I think I may let everything sit for a while, and let the paint cure up for a couple weeks. I'm also debating whether I want to get a cf seatpost and paint that too. We'll see.

Looks even better than I had thought seeing the taped up version.

You know you want to do the seatpost.

What's your build kit going to be on this? And might I say you have far too much time on your hands- how much time did it take (approx.) to do this kind of stuff? I myself may be interested in the future.

It takes bilions and billions....

No, it doesn't take that long, when you get used to doing it. My first couple of projects took forever, and were more experimental and provided me with a time consuming leraning curve. But, now I can do this kind of work in a matter of hours. Still not fast enough to do it for a living, but fast enough that I can still remember what my wife and kids look like after being in the garage painting all afternoon.

Paint the seatpost? Well, probably not. I'm thinking of going with an American Classic seatpost, but not quite certain yet.

Well, here is everything together. It really looks good being all together like this. It's the first time I've had a chance to see what my initial sketches look like for real in 3D.

These are probably the last set of pics I'll post on this for a while, as I need to save up for a gruppo, wheels, etc.

I will build it up with the new '07 Campy Record and Ultra-Torque CT crank. I'm also on my way to deciding on wheels. I'm still not sure which set to go with. So far, I'm leaning towards AC-420's, or another set of XR-1's like I used on Fast Attack. I've had good success with them. And, the bike may look good with stealth wheels.

Anyway, here ya go.

And no, this frame is not for sale.

Anyway

This is going to look amazing with a 07 Record group on it with that new carbon CT UltraTorque crank. My only worry is the vastly different carbon look of the crank against the frame's weave. But I think you've got enough color in the BB area where it won't be bad at all. The AC's will look good on the frame. Maybe a Campagnolo G3 patterned set perhaps? Zondas?

Zondas? No, too heavy. This is going to be a weight weenie bike. Around 15#. So, I need very light wheels around 1500g or less.

BEAUTIFUL! I can't believe how well all the graphics flow together. I would like to back up the carbon seatpost idea. While you're at it, may as well throw in the new 30g carbon saddle to match(painted of course)! However, Your wife may not appreciate that weight savings as much when she has to sit on it.

Hey Patroit, I'm sorry if I missed the details, but do you mind giving a bit of detail on what kind of paint and equipment you used? Any tips for laying out the graphics on the frame? I have access to a paint booth, and a ton of painting equipment, but have only painted car body panels myself and one road bike all black. Just interested in getting some tips for my next paint job!

Thanks!

Hmm...I very much so like the flow of the job, especially the pink on the handle bar to top tube.

Another Idea I had, was to paint the wheels. Get some nice deep rims, and create a similar design on the wheels. That would be kickin!

Oh and if you can, the Pink Ergo levers would rule beyond belief...

I have gotten quite used to using Auto Air Colors. It's an acrylic based auto paint.

I have no definites on graphics yet.

I have a 25gal vertical compressor in my garage, ,and a regulator/filter which I hook into with my airbrush. I like the regulator on such a large tank. it allows me to work without the little compressor constantly going. I can easily set the pressure from 0-90psi for a variety of equipment, from airbrushes, to my touch-up gun for clear coating, to large scale auto paint guns.

Best tip I can give for airbrushing. Get one, and practice.

If I remember, they came in a plastic bag, but the bars were wrapped with bubble-wrap inside the bag. They were more than good enough for their trip. Even if they had no bubble-wrap, they are so light, you could toss around the box, and I doubt it would ever hurt them either way.

If you are concerned about it, just add a little note when you place an order. Ask them nicely if they could ensure some bubble-wrap around the bars, to protect them from the long and torturous trip.

I think you should get some deep dish carbon wheels and do pink & white accents along the edges.
