Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bianchi Frame Size

I spoke to a Bianchi dealer a while back and he was telling me about there frame size. I cannot remember if he said that they ran smaller than most. Just wondering if anyone has any experence on this. Thanks for any info.

My last Bianchi, a 2001, a size 63c, for example, was equal to a 61c Lemond. That's only because the Bianchi's size was based on the length of the seattube--like a Trek is measured--whereas the Lemond is measured c-c. It is just a way of measuring but accounting for that, Bianchis do not run small.

Yep. It goes by seat tube. I'd suggest checking out their geometry charts.

The best way to tell though is to go and test ride.

Bikes: Ibex Corrida LT 4.4 (2003), 2006 Bianchi Vigorelli (Red)

I just got an 06 Bianchi Vigorelli. Most of the other bikes I was trying out were 54 cm. I tried Cannondale, Trek, Specialized and Felt in that size. The Lemond and Bianchi came in 53 and 55 cm sizes. The Lemond 55 felt too big, but the Bianchi 55 felt just right. I don't know if the Lemond ran a little larger or the Bianchi ran a little smaller, or a combination of the two.

Lemonds are known to have longer top tubes, that's why they apear to be a size larger. When looking for your frame size look at the effective top tube length.

Bikes: Specialized Roubaix - previously Bianchi Venice (pictured above)

5'10", 32" inseam. 57mm frame/175mm cranks Veloce fit perfectly after some tinkering with seat position, particularly the fore/aft adjustment. Interestingly, came stock with a 90mm stem (one reason I think it fits so well, I don't get stretched out in front of the headset), somewhat shorter than some other brands. Only way to know if it's right for you - get measured by a competent LBS staffer and ride the bike set up as it would be (shorts, shoes, gloves, seat adjusted fore/aft and for height) when you own it.

FWIW, 58mm Trek 5200 and Pilot 5.0's felt too long, 56's a bit squished. Just me but fit is the deal maker/killer. All else, while important, is secondary.

I have a 54cm Trek that fits me well, bought a Bianchi that size and sold it a week later, it was to small. I bought it as a frame and put my spare parts on it, sold it stripped again. My LeMond is a 53cm and it fits me perfectly.
