Canadian pro cyclist killed while commuting
Last Friday it was cold and rainy here in Montreal. I was a little bit angry because I only put light tights and temperature drop to 2 C in the evening when I came back from work. I arrived at home freezed and soaked... but I arrived.
At the very same time another guy in the same town with much more experience on a bike than I have was also riding home in the rain and melting snow. But he never arrived, never kissed again his wife and two young children. He was killed in a hit-and-run.
Sorry if this news was posted before, I did not see it on this forum. I always think about this man and his family now. A webpage relating the news can be found here https://www.geocities.com/velonouvell...t/Velop21.html
It is mainly in French but some newspaper headlines are in English.

Very tragic and sad. During my Montreal visits I have not seen too many bike friendly roads in the city but many bikers at least in the summer.
RIP.
RIP.

I got a real scare when I heard it on the news, as my son works in that neighborhood. I ran down the stairs to check that his bike was in the hall. I think it was a case where the rear wheels of a tractor-trailer rode up over the curb as it was taking a corner.

It's quite possible that the driver of the tractor trailer (if that's what actually struck the cyclist), might not even know he struck a cyclist as the mass of the cyclist will be insignificant compared to the tractor trailer. I was once side-swiped (in my car) by an 18-wheeler and the driver didn't even notice until I chased him down...

I actually remember that day very well, a few people were supposed to come visit my wife and I at the hospital but cancelled because they said the weather was too crazy for them. I also noticed snow flakes falling down the same day and found it odd to see snow in October.

That sucks. I flew in to Montreal that day and was probably just leaving the airport near there at around the time he was hit. The weather was pretty horrible (rain with a little snow) but visibility wasn't really that bad.
I bike a lot when I go there, and my GF gets around there primarily by bike and inline skate in the summer and bike and public transport in the winter. It's scary when stuff like that happens.

How tragic and sad.
Trying to ascribe this to any particular place is pointless. Falls into the **** happens dept. Sometimes very bad, evil ****. Which a hit and run that results in fatality qualifies for. Awful.
My point is that you should be aware that this is part of the cycling landscape (motorcycling too). EVERYWHERE. Something to bear in mind.
