the mount is held on by 2 black rubber bands that go on the underside of the handle bars (one on each side of the stem). not household rubber bands but thicker bands that come with the mount. the bands attach to hooks molded into the mount.

the red circle on the pic (above the cable housings) shows a bit of one of the hooks and the band.

i find those extensions take away from the sleekness of the bars.......stem mounts are the way to go
