Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

With all the riding you do, I seriously doubt you have a poundage issue

You ain't doing nothin' wrong...

Yup, that's where I am. 51 yrs old, 6'0", 186lbs, 10% fat.

For me, there is life other than cycling, although I do well enough on group rides not to embarass myself. I do a lot of other sports too, so I actually do have an upper body

That brings up a question ive been meaning to ask, is it really advantageous to shave your legs?

To stay in the same vein as the post, even my TRACK buddies in highschool used to joke that if i turned sideways, i disappeared.

At 5'10" 240 Lbs. Not very likely. I' a Prop first and a cyclist second. No one (except the very fast) teases a Prop about body type.

But seriously, the key to losing weight is to establish a maintainable lifestyle change that allows you to steadily (ie. over weeks/months) burn more calories than you eat. You can (a) reduce calorie intake through diet, or (b) increase caloric expenditure through exercise, or (c) a bit of both.

Most health/nutrition professionals recommend weight-bearing exercise at fat-burning intensity (i.e. low-to-moderate intensity) and a diet rich in filling but low-calorie foods, but these recommendations are made because they are sustainable, not because they are magic. You could eat nothing but sugar and sit in front of a TV all day and still lose weight.

Write a diet book on this method, Oprah would love it.

lol you make a good point

It seems most cyclists lean towards volume and away from intensity. Certainly, one-minute intervals should only be once a week, but I never ever skip that workout. I think most overweight and/or slow people have an empty loop in their tool belt where the 1-minute-interval-hammer should go.

Here's me in France in '04. I'm 6', and at the time I was 172 lbs. For the last year or so, I've averaged 168-170 (usually getting down to 165 during the summer).

I (and my GF) would agree. Just look at marathoners. It's marathon season and I am working on my third on this winter. She is always telling me I look like I am loosing too much weight. Funny thing is I weigh the same as I did during the spring/summer when I ride. My body just reacts differently to the different training.

People are generally shocked when I tell them I weight 135. They guess much lower.

As far as the abnormally low part, considering how skinny I am it is no strech of the imagination by any means.

Absolutely. I make fun of skinny cyclist because I'll never be one. Or because I don't want to be one. Wait a minute, uh, nevermind....

Well, this is funny because yet another coworker commented on my weight. And yet again it was in the reception area next to the elevators. But the difference is that he's an athlete and bike commuter himself so his comment was "Hey, you look lean and mean! Are you training for something?" Which is a whole lot different than what I normally hear.

5'8" (maybe slightly under) and 150lbs right now. I want to hit 145, but ideal for me would be 140.

I'm 44th percentile for my age, so unfortunately, the only people saying I'm too skinny are the parents and my girlfriend.

Im the same way, my built looks more like a runner then a cyclist even if i do both, i tend to have leaner muscles and I dont really bulk up.
You should see all im eating right now while working just cause I ran today, you could never tell I eat this much.
