Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

One of them days

So it was one of those days for me. I woke up and planned on getting on the bike early for a couple of hours. First off I could not find my HR strap. I looked everywhere. After about 30 minutes I found it in my hamper. Don't ask. I have no clue how it got there. I finally get dressed and go to pull on my arm warmers and realize they are not where they belong. After 20 minutes of looking I give up. The ride itself started off nice enough. Mid 60's with no wind and very little traffic. I am cruising along at 20ish about 25 miles into my ride when a burst of air hits my leg. Ugh.....Flat tire. So I decide not to hurry the flat fix and do it right. I pull the tire off and flip it inside out to check for debris and find none. I put my one spare tube in and pump it up with my one spare Co2 and BOOM!!!!!!! Turns out I missed a huge cut from a piece of glass in my new PRO Race 2's and the spare tube bubbled out of the cut. Had I seen the cut I would have done the ole dollar bill trick to patch the cut. Oh well. So me and my bike and pile of tubes sat on the side of the road for 2 hours waiting on the wife to pick me up. Just one of those days.

Sounds like fun. At least it wasn't snowing.

I always carry two tubes, a pump, and a patch kit, just in case. I got in the habit when I lived in NYC because a good long ride would take you pretty far out of the city. There none of your friends have cars to come pick you up. Never know when you're going to have a multi flat ride.

Gah. Sorry, man. I have one of those about once per month. I started organizing my stuff the day before a longer ride becase I'd spend an hour hunting down the right glove, or the left arm warmer, etc. By the time I got out the door, I'd be exhausted from the scavenger hunt.

+1 on 2 tubes & a patch kit. I see alot of guys carrying a spare folding tire as well, but I haven't done that yet.

Doubt I will ever carry a pump so there is no need for a patch kit. I do have my LBS's phone number though and he has a nice bike rack
