I would say that if you "fly by" matthew mcconaughey (sp???) and LA, it's more that you managed to pass M.M. than it is that passed Lance Armstrong. Just sayin'.
I went by a guy in Prospect Park the other day, fully kitted out on a bike with a Powertap, looked pretty ripped. He was, however, taking a spin with his daughter on a tiny purple BMX bike.
I passed them both, but it was not that I was really passing him, just passing his five or six year old kid

Can you imagine being that high profile? Every R600 in the world wants to take you on. It must be hilarious & annoying. But that's the price you pay for fame.

it is sad that the story never goes...
"So I was riding in Central park (or Malibu) the other day and passed LA in a wicked sprint; but then he actually tried and totally embarrassed me in front of my whole club and I was forced to ride home alone because I am such a poseur and a sore looser that I tried to justify it by the number of miles I already rode."

armstrong's right about the "messenger" thing though. most people who ride fixed in the park can spin 49x17-14 at a 90+ steady cadence on around 70% of the park's terrain. it's dfntly an advantage in a situation like CP. i could certainly see a strong fixed rider dropping him in the park--particularly cos he's just *riding* and not *racing*. the guy's got nothing to prove.
i generally ride fixed 49x14 in the park, but on the road bike i stick to 49x12-16 and usually have it on the 13 or 14t cog. on 9W i widen the range up to the 18t cog.
you NYC roadie-types need to start riding fixed more often. it'll prep you to better drop armstrong while he's on a leisurely stroll. if you wear jeans and a t-shirt, he'll think yr a messenger and yield out of fear.

Lots of roadies training on fixies in CP. I'll be stereotypical and say they're roadies cuz they're riding in kits, don't have a bag and are riding w/ other roadies in kits. They pretty much devour Harlem Hill.
