Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Incorrect. I got in more than one drawn out tussle with him when I was fairly new. A lot of America, Euro, China type debates.

I really could care less if you or anyone else comes here and gets their feelings hurt, I do however care when those same people try to change something due to their thin skin. You see I believe in freedom of choice. I hate Howard Stern, I never once tried to get him banned from the airways. I just chose not to listen to him. I used to cut his television show, after a few episodes I asked to be put on a different show. I didn't ask the network to stop airing him.

I guess where I find the big disconnect is when those who feel that they have been wronged feel that the only recourse is to have the person that they are having an issue with removed. I just don't believe that is realistic, here or in the 'real' world. When my kids come home and say that so and so made fun them, I don't go to their teacher and complain. I tell them to stand up to so and so let them know that they don't like it. I want them to know that a little teasing at school isn't the worst thing that's going to happen to them, and neither is a little teasing on bike forum the worst thing that's going to happen to any of us.
We agree in many ways and disagree on others. I do care somewhat if people come here and get their feelings hurt. I don't like to see that. Skin thinness has to do with experience level. The more you have the thicker it is. Newbs that come here have thin skin about bicycling and that is not their fault and some lattitude should be given IMHO. I like Howard Stern. When he used to be on public radio, I listened to him every morning on the ride to work and had a good laugh every day. No sat here so no Howard but I miss the big lug. So our threshold for offensive speak is a mixed filter. What Howard says doesn't bother me...nor botto for that matter.
Where we agree is on having people removed. Aside from sparking good discussion about appropriate dialog on this forum, I am dead against kicking people off the board that are not overly toxic. The question is where is the line? Its different for many. You and I may agree that we saw nothing that should have gotten botto banned from here.
George

I LOVE to eat 2 PB&J's for lunch! I have been reducing that to 1 PB&J because I fear how many calories are in 2 each day, but I claim I do it for the protein.

or better, let's just get threads from sensitive moderators justifying their unique moral take, or more "steel is real" threads.

I think there is somebody else worthy of scorn who deserves some of the blame and seems to be left out of this. The mindless poster who logs in, asks some inane question that has been asked before without searching and then just moves on.

Is a simple, "Use the search" reply helpful? No. But it is fair.

How many people did you know in school who never cracked a book and then came to a study session before the midterm looking for someone to teach them Micro Economics in four hours?

<edit> I should add, when I was that mindless poster and put in my place, I took it as a learning experience.
