Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Discounts are pretty common, especially on previous-year model bikes. It could be that this particular Cannondale model is flying off the LBS floors, so they don't feel they have to discount them. You can always ask, though.

The REI where I live carries Cannondale, and in the past couple of years, they've had a sale every spring where all bikes are 15% or 20% off, so that might be an option in Boston, too.

Check Wheelworks too. They often discount their older bikes. Belmont wheelworks has more bikes and more discounted ones. They also have tons of C-dales and aren't afraid to haggle.

Exactly and that's why shops are reluctant to cut prices on them. They make all their money with merch. and services like repair. It's only a large store that has stuff other than bikes that can afford to slash prices way down to clear space for the next model year. You'll only find heavy discounts on stuff that's about 3+ years old. And then a lot of those guys are turning to ebay now.
