Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

"Truing" is the process of adjusting the tension on your spokes so the rim is "perfectly" round, does not "wobble" when turning, and in the case of the rear wheel, that the wheel is properly "dished". Your LBS has a device called a truing stand, which holds the wheel and has adjustable arms which allow the user to easily see how far out of true the rim is.

You can true a wheel yourself, and you don't need a truing stand, but it's a lot easier with one. I'd let the LBS do it.

If you really want to try you will need a proper spoke wrench - no way to get around it. Take your bike to a friendly LBS, tell them you want to buy a spoke wrench and you need them to show you how to do some quick truing with the wheel still on your bike.

did great, I then am ready for the road, well atleast I think. Im in
my garage clipped in on the right side trying so hard to get the
left foot clipped and forget how slow im rolling, panic and then fall
on my right side!! How stupid I felt!! oh well, just a nice scrape on
my knee, no biggie and no one saw me fall.
if you cant clip in quick, remember that your other foot is clipped in so you can pedal with just one foot until you get the other one in.....good luck....wait until there are a lot of cars around you to really put the pressure on

Been riding clipless for over a year, still haven't fallen yet (knock wood). But in the beginning I cheated. Started with the tension light on the pedals and beside my cycle computer I had a label taped to the handlebars. you guessed the name UNCLIP. I also had already read about people forgetting and coming to a stop and just falling over. must be something to see.

well the good thing is, I dont have the fear of falling now. I know what it
feels like and I feel I learned a great lesson. I tell you what though, there is
no worse feeling than when you know you are going to fall and you cant do
crap about it but brace yourself for impact . A feeling I hope to never face
again!
