Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Count the RPM's check the gearing charts, then tell me I didn't.

Wow, feisty bunch today.

"Dude", i'm a top heavy out of shape pretend cyclist who just finished a short hour long ride (in which i think i may have actually been in the first stages of a bad dehydration) and because of this thread, on the final stretch of flat road, from a red light, hit 31.5mph into a headwind...

I'm pretty sure anyone with any amount of experience would have no issues hitting 35mph or above...and anyone with any sort of experience on a bike is not likely going to question that if they use their noggin.

Dude.....

I didnt say one cannot hit 35+ in a sprint (I do it at least once a week) but I am saying his video does not show a cyclist going 40+

Dude...enough with that

I suppose i can see what your saying, i was hoping he would be right next to the car...but i suspect he tried to keep a distance for safety's sake.

oh hell yeah!

There's a lot of talk on this board, but that was sofa king bad-ass. I tried to drope the hammer from a standstill like that and the results were not pretty, and that was with 50mph tail-wind. Plus the rest of my ride was shot. Now I have new goal for the season. . .

Thanks bro

Yeah, wtf? I took one look at the video and could tell immediately that it was legit. Those who don't believe it clearly can't sprint, and aren't familiar with what it looks like.

Sprinting in the 37-38mph range, I'm in a 53-13 or 53-14 (depending on my starting speed). At 40mph in a 53-11, the RPMs are not the challenge. I wouldn't even be in my 12. Last week, I was drafting a truck at 45 in my 53-13... and I'm a masher, not a spinner. I wind it up for sprints though.

They really had a "bike porn" thing going on in the beginning! Good video though.

FOG hits 35 in a finishing sprint this evening (very slightly downhill)

Was chasing an even older guy that said he hit 37. He hurt me.

could just go north of the border to Canuck land, we have those fancy speed measuring thingys in KM/H too.

edit: I just noticed this thread is 7 pages long, sorry if this is a repeat on the Canada thing, don't feel like reading the whole thing.
