This is probably closest to the truth most times the phrase "pulled the trigger" is used. It seems obvious enough why we need an abbreviation, and a euphemism for that, but I don't think it's a very GOOD euphemism for "bought yet another bike I don't really need". Howsabout "added anoth notch to my gunstock" that way you still get the insinuation of killing someone, but there is implication of "collecting kills".

1. Pulled the Trigger.

2. Took the Plunge and...

3. Finally made my decision.

4. What is OCP and why do I need a garage door again?

5. Ok, I'm ready to upgrade

6. Alright, what's the difference between Shimano and Campy.

7. For sale, my R600 with Dura Ace components and mountain bike shirt.

I don't think they're a mystery, i think the reality of firearms is all too obvious.

As far as changing the "pull the trigger" term? How's about no. Im sick of catering the the latest and greatest PCness.

Without turning this into total P&R fodder, I don't think guns are a mystery, but guns and gun violence are glorified in many areas of society, and meanwhile there's another huge group that is so scared of them that we have discussions about whether it's OK to say "I pulled the trigger."

I just think that we need to recognize that there's nothing magical or iherently evil about guns. I've shot lots of them, including the recently-infamous Glock 19, and have never hurt another human being. Meanwhile, kids who get ignored, ridiculed, and put down are told by society in a multitude of ways that the way to make people take notice is to get a gun and start shooting, because the very mention of the word "gun" is enough to trigger anxiety attacks all over the place.

But don't let this little whacko putz take away the fun we have on the Internet saying 'I Pulled the Trigger'. Nobody here is shooting anybody, and we all know that.

It depends on why you're talking about your purchase publicly... Just be honest.

DrPete wrote a funny thread on the ubiquitous approval-seeking thread (Trigger Type A). This covers a good many of the trigger pulling threads. There should be a global search and replace for "Just pulled the trigger on" -> "Please ex[ress your approval or disapproval of my ... purchase"

The Trigger Type Bs seem to be joy in acquisition or compulsive shoppers. "Whoops! Just added a ... to the credit card!"

Trigger Type C is "Respect My Buying Power!" so "Just pulled the trigger on..." -> "Repect My Buying Power: ... " would suffice. :)

(One can feasibly detonate a high yield nuclear weapon and not kill anyone. It doesn't make them safe or a good birthday gift idea for our nation's youth. But yeah, I'm all for protecting the puiblic's right to bear arms. Class inequities and the drug trade to a leser extent are more causative of gun violence than gun availability.)

Sorry, unacceptable. My poor, poor Aunt was working in a nice florist shop in 1968. As she wore her Nancy Sinatra boots (made for walking BTW) and 60's thigh high a-go-go dress trimming the long-stem roses, when out of nowhere a Plymouth Fury came crashing through the large store-front glass display causing her to need major plastic surgery to her face. Even to this day her mother doesn't recognize her. :(

The innocuous term "pull the trigger" about making a purchase decision has been in place for decades, if not longer. PC is the undoing of this country.

The OP lists his location as The Pentagon...and we all know that is symbolic of the over-reaching and hegemonic American War Machine that often pulls the trigger against unsuspecting, benovolent despots!

In fact, if I see any five-sided objects reminiscent of that frightful building, I typically go catatonic with fear and my family needs to ensure a sick day is called-in to my employer.

I think your comment would be better communicated with "typograpical symbols, such as dots or astericks, preceding each item in the list":

* half cocked
* fully loaded
* pull the trigger
