Not to bring us too far back to the start of the thread, but...

"I slaughtered the indigenous peoples to eliminate a chance of uprising"
"I enslaved those of other races"
"I beat a woman with a switch no larger than my thumb"

Those are phrases that should be PC'd. Pulling the trigger... means what, exactly? You shot something? 99% of the things I've shot at haven't been alive... most are some sort of fused ceramic. What's the offense, again?

I invoked wallet-emptying procedure #<your incrementing number here> successfully. :D

How many bikes does this buy?

In such cases, the correct usage when purchasing a WalMart bike is "pulling the finger," as in "I pulled the finger on a GMC Denali".

As a tournament shooter (trap mostly, sporting clays sometimes), I pull the trigger about 300-500 rounds a month average. Guns are nothing to fear if you learn how to shoot and clean them. My former gf slept with a hunting knife with a 7" blade...I found a lump under my pillow one night (hmm, do miss that woman) and she says "oh, be careful don't cut yourself"...lol. Knives scare me, not guns.

Is this like when Butthead says, "Hey Beavis, pull my finger"???

It's not necessarily an offense as it is simply an uncouth expression. I'm sure there are better surrogate expressions for it.

Johnny_Monkey 04-23-07 12:41 AM

How about:

"To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women."

Thats what we did in Australia.

samsation7 04-23-07 12:54 AM

So you're saying that you rule a third world country? If that's indeed the case...then be afraid my friend. Be very afraid.

Arent' the very first whites (british prisoners) rebellions? Why don't you guys just ship the natives somewhere else instead of genocide? Atleast what the British did was somewhat humane.

I don't know how you can feel safe sleeping with a woman with a knife under her pillow. I pray that you're not a super rich guy. You know how the stories go.:D

No. The British were the first colonists. Blame them.

It's not uncouth and it is a very descriptive term - one that I don't believe a good surrogate exists for.

You contemplate, research, etc. but discipline yourself not to complete the transaction before the time is right. Very much "pulling the trigger". Not a haphazard impulsive thing, but disciplined and thoughtful.

My little joke about bullet points didn't get a rise out of anyone, but I wonder what you think of that term... Uncouth?? Offensive? violent?

urodacus 04-23-07 03:56 AM

so THAT's what you guys have all been talking about. geez, why don't you just use english? ...you do know english, don't you? even in america you speak english, i'm sure of it.... then we could all get some sleep.

gun culture run riot.

Expressions that are merely "uncouth" don't make anyone's "heart skip a beat."

WTF are you talking about? Last I checked a week was 7 days. Are they still using some obscure viking calender in Denmark?

No, and uncouth expression would be me performing a certain act of defiance to the tune of 'Moon River' while you attempt to eat breakfast.

I thought the big news in both countries was Princess Mary giving birth.

Blue Jays 04-23-07 06:04 AM

/\/\ That is fantastic news about Princess Mary! Everyone was wondering when she was finally going to pull the trigger on motherhood with Crown Prince Frederik.
