A different term for "pulling the trigger"

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A different term for "pulling the trigger"

Not to be inordinately politically correct. However, I think it's better to just say "bought a new bike" instead of "pulling the trigger." Everytime, I see a title like that, it makes my heart skips a beat. Just my thoughts.

While "So I spent my kid's college fund" may be more accurate, but it just doesn't have the same ring to it.

I don't know, I understand the sentiment considering what happened this week, but "pulled the trigger" doesn't seem that bad to me. Perhaps I'm just desensitized.

I agree. The phrase 'pull the trigger' is annoying. I'm not PC about it or being sensitive after this weeks events like I think samsation7 is alluding too. Its just getting a bit old.

What about 'slapped the cash down' or 'unleased the fury'? Or simply use the word 'purchased'.

So, what should I say if I actually "pulled the trigger?"

I understand what you are saying, but I think it's ok to say pulled the trigger. It's a bike forum and we all know what is meant by that phrase.

People don't kill people. OCP bike porn threads where people use the phrase "pulled the trigger" kill people. Apparently.

Maybe if our society demystified guns to the point where you could actually have an intelligent dialogue about them without anyone's "heart skipping a beat" we'd actually make some progress.

I don't know that the gun overtones bother me (I think we can linguistically process that we are not talking about firearms), but I find it a stupid phrase. It is up there with "winning" things on ebay on my list of least favorite purchasing lingo.

OK it we want to drop the phrase "Pulled the Trigger"

Letas also drop such terms as "Bike Porn" "Wheel Porn" or any other form of Porn.

And then let us get rid of the term Biffiter or however you want to spell it. Its a term that oly exists on bike forums. Go into a bike shoip and ask for one and they are going to give you a blank look and say " You want what?"

Then maybe people should make sure they use the words bulid up or assemble when the are assembling a bike. They are not building it. They are not sitting down with a mold and laying up their own carbon frame or fork. Then are not sitting dowm with a billet of Ti or aluminum and making a part. NO you are assembling something that came out of a box.

Damn, I always hate posting after chipcom. He's a hard act to follow. (I hope that phrase doesn't make anyone's heart skip a beat, or stomach lurch.)

Any way, here's my contribution: "I opened my suitcase of courage and took out my Master Card so that I would soon be dancing on the pedals."

Bikes: Many

What better term to use to symbolize the end of a hunt for the bike of your dreams (within financial limitations)?

However, I vote for "Made the leap" Of course, it could b mistaken for trials, bmx or X-games, but such is life...

I have a bike "in my sights" at the local LBS. Maybe my interest is just "a flash in the pan" although I may be "half cocked" in wanting a "fully loaded" road bike. Oh heck, I think I am going to "pull the trigger" on this one anyway!
