Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You guys all have sweet bikes!

Here's my bike, yeah I know its a Performance Scattante, but the frame is almost identical if not identical to the Compact frame of the TCR.

-Ultegra Equipped (switched cassette and front deraileur from 105)
-Lame Tektro R570 brakes, Dura-Ace brake pads
-Fizik Arione
-Speedplay Light Action
-Cateye Astrale 8 (not shown)
-Minoura Rear water (tri-type) cage mount

Please link to the TCR you are comparing to. Are you talking about a GIANT TCR? I would like to see a picture please.

This is my friend's TCR 2 for example:

Thanks!
Honestly, you might be stuck with a front pannier only. Some rear panniers clamp on to the seatpost...which the Softride doesn't have. Others at least use the seat post or seattube for fore/aft stability. Also, I doubt the rear 'triangle' has holes for a rack to screw into. That bike just wasn't designed for touring.

But, with a front rack, you should be able to fit a decent size pannier on either or both sides of your front wheel.

They're similar in that they are both bicycle frames. Else the frames are different, certainly not identical.

There is nothing wrong with a Scattante frame...who really gives a rats a@# if it is a Performance house brand frame....I have a Scattante XRL frame (similar to yours but without the carbon seat stays) that I built up with a Duraace/Ultegra component group....I have owned 4 different road bikes, and my Scattante is my favorite....as long as it is comfortable to you and you like, than it is the best bike for you....happy riding!!

Just recently added a new saddle, Selle Italia SLR gel flow, at first I didn't like it much, but after putting some more miles on it, it's growing on me.

Nice ride! That saddle really sets off that frame well! Keep the tape black for that cool menacing look you have going on there. Makes me miss my old yellow Scott.

Well, I just picked up an '07 Specialized Dolce yesterday. I'm a beginner so I didn't go all out just yet. This will be my short charity ride bike. When I start riding around 70+ miles, then I will pick up a better bike.

Anyway...here are the pics.

New pedals and possibly saddle, even though it is comfy now, will be coming soon. I had them put regular pedals with no strap on until I decide which pedals to get. The pedals that came with it had a strap and I didn't like it. Will go clipless more than likely.

What do you all think about white bar tape and possibly a white saddle?

too...many....specialized bikes!

I'm starting to despise them, and here's why. They throw in unecessary gimicks, like carbon seat tubes, gel handle bar tape to make it seem like it's worth more money. When in reality they do absolutely nothing. And after that they sneak in lower grade components i.e. tiagra w/ 105 for around $1,200, where you could buy a full 105 bike for the same price. Not to mention there acclaimed zertz inserts! Where they stick a large bubble in carbon stays. Funny thing is, most companies are already doing that, specialized just has to make it terribly ugly.

O yea, and there are so many of them, they look generic.

And ugly.

imho. rants over.

If there are so many of them, that means many people buy it, and that cant be a bad thing right?

You are certainly correct about the mixture of components, which is why I decided to choose the components myself.

Generic? I dont think so

Right now, my 30 year old Ross:

I like riding this one better than my new Trek mountain bike. Starting to think about a new road bike - someting a little more up-to-date (with a lower gear!).

lol...Mine didn't cost $1200 and it rode the best out of the entry level road bikes I tested. That's what matters to me. Not that you think it is generic and ugly. It gets the job done.

Get a blog!

Seriously though, I don't really see that a carbon seat tube is an unnecessary gimmick. Sure if I was upgrading my bike, it might not be the first thing I changed to save weight but its not really a gimmick.

Zerts inserts?
I havent ridden them but from what I've read they make the ride pretty smooth and what other companies are doing that? Please show me.

Looks is obviously a matter of opinion and I can understand getting bored of Spesh. bikes as there are so many (why I chose a Bianchi over an Allez)

just built this up last night, it hasn't even been ridden yet (it still needs some tweaks to the rear derailleur)

anyways, not the best picture because it was taken with a real cheap nikon coolpix which is the first camera i could find on short notice, but its still a damn beautiful bicycle as far as i'm concerned. will post better pics in the following weeks.
