Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Caad8

Here is my ride, Cannondale CAAD8. Image taken during a ride through Scottsdale, AZ. Eventually I'll get a few better parts on it but for now it rides great.

It only takes a few minutes to clean up a bike after a ride.

When you spend some coin on a tool, it pays to take care of it. I keep my hammers clean too, even though I use them to beat things.

This is an 52cm 06 Fetish Cycles Penna. Setup for a short, round, oddly proportioned person. I owed you all a new picture now it's finally completely comfortable for me.

As per usual, my road bike is cooler than I am. I have a Spot (yes, the singlespeed mountain company) road bike. A looong time ago, the old owners had a few road bikes made and I got one. That fact and the super cool Spectrum paint job makes me look fast, even if I'm not. Hmm I should go take some pics.

Well since you guys are talking about my "beater". I do take extremely good care of my stuff. Bike stuff isn't cheap.

I do race about every other weekend or so and put on 16-20+ hours a week training on that very bike. It is my only roadbike and I literally beat on it everyday, although I do wipe it down, clean and oil it every chance I get. The hours on it will be slightly less when I get my TT bike because I will ride it at least 2 times a week.

Well the wait (for me) is over! Here's a pic of the Caad9 I picked up last night. I put just under 3 miles on it first thing this morning and boy do I love it... This is my first road bike but I do have a few mountian bikes in the garage.

'08 R6 Caad9 frame with a full 105 group, and Reynolds Alta Comp wheels. The wheels and components are a take off from an '09 Kuota, the owner who bought the Kuota wanted full Campy before he took it home so I got a great deal.

Here she is:

edit: pics too small.

After months of lurking and scouring craigslist and the LBS I finally picked up a bike. Behold my 2005 Trek 1500!

Just got back after my first 10m ride! I love it!

Why wouldn't someone keep an expensive bike meticulously clean? How is that indicative of the amount of riding they do or type of riding they use it for (beater, racing, commuting, all in one, etc)? So if I have a nice, expensive bike, that is my do everything workhorse, I should neglect it and not take care of it? That makes a lot of sense.

Just to put your fears to rest....My Serotta is PRISTINE and sees 200 miles a week most every week. Even my winter beater gets a thorough cleaning after everyride and believe me when I say riding in the winter in Cleveland will get a bike real nasty. Here are 2 pics of my daily riders....I know I have posted them before

yeah, i ride my Time often, and usually at least take the wheels off and clean everything every other ride. it only takes a half hour or so-- easy to do and watch the news or some tv show. it's not like washing and waxing a car every day.

Can I ask what tipped you over to the Elite?

I rode the regular last weekend. Liked how it felt. Did not like the components. To jump to Sport, I get 105 throughout.

What are the big gains from Sport to Elite?
