Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Look CX-6 adjustment

Hi,

I just purchased a used set of look cx-6 pedals and cannot figure out how to adjust the q-factor. I've checked online for a user manual or some other directions and have had no success.

Does anyone have any hints at to how to do this. Are there directions anywhere that I could reference. It looks like I have to unscrew the axle or something like that, but I can't really tell.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Erik

The black cylinder part that inserts into the pedal body is threaded and can be rotated into or out of the pedal body. There should be limit markers beyond which if you screw it out it will break. Not to rain on your parade or anything but I went through two sets of these pedals. In the first case the bearings failed on one pedal and on the second set the left pedal needed service after not much use. You can't service them yourself but instead need to send them back to Look.

I see the limit marks and the flat spots for a wrench on the axle. I assume that I have to loosen the axle itself first? Of course, this seems to require a specific tool that, shockingly, I don't have.

I'll keep an eye on the bearings issue that you mentioned. I'm not totally sold on this idea yet and am thinking of getting some speedplay with a longer axle.

thanks for the info.

I have and love these pedals, I've put thousands of miles on mine with no issues. They are the only thing that's kept me from going to Keo's, as I have a problem with my left knee and I have to move the Q factor out about 2mm. They should have given you a little wrench to adjust the Q factor with, I may have an extra one if you can't find yours. Pop the cover loossen the set screw and turn the nut inside, it's really that simple.

El Diablo,

I bought the pedals used off ebay and they did not come with the wrench. I guess I didn't do enough research. I'm checking with Look right now to see if I can get a wrench. If not, and you have an extrax, what would you charge for it?
