Saddle Bag

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Saddle Bag

I was cleaning my Roubaix yesterday and realized how much cooler it looked when I had the seat bag off. I also noticed that the seat bag I have looks like crap and does not match. What do you think is the best one (function and looks) out there? Just want to carry the bare essentials - tube, CO2, tire levers, tiny multi-tool.

The nicest one I have seen so far is this one on Competitive Cyclist: Sci-Con Elan Seat Bag.

Thanks in advance!

I would go with a Topek mini DX or a Cannondale pod.

Or you could use your jersey pocket.

I use the Sci-Con Elan, and I do think it's much better looking than any others I've seen out there.

That said, I can get an inner tube, multi-tool, set of tire levers and a Schrader valve adapter in therre. The Ultraflate goes in the jersey pocket. In other words, it's small....

I used to use the Pearl Izumi tailgate, but since I got my new fizik saddle with ICS I've been using there saddle bag. Not having to play with straps when getting acces to bag is also pretty handy.

Do you have something you put all of your stuff in before the jersey pocket? Zip lock or something?

This is what I use. I have a micro CO2 inflater, two CO2 cartridges, a tube, a couple of patches, some glue and a tire lever in a zip lock bag. Fits nicely in one of my jersey pockets.

I also have a saddle bag that I can attach if I am going on a very long ride or riding in an area without cell coverage. This way I can carry a multi-tool, some sunscreen and a couple of Gu packets as well. This leaves my jersey pockets open for more food.

Cheers - Garry

+1. I have the medium bag, largest they make, and a riding buddy of mine has the small bag. I had to warranty my seat because the I.C.S. receptacle on the bottom of the seat did not allow the bag to seat properly. I have the low-end model, the Aliante Pro. Replacement seat works perfectly. The bag engages with a resounding click and is secure.

Retro-grouches have tire socks (primarily for holding a spare tubular or two) instead of saddle bags.

Bikes: Trek Domane SLR 9.9 - Trek Supercaliber 9.9.

Here is what I do, I wrap my tube and a patch kit in a zip lock. on top I put two co2's with inflater and a quick stick, in between I sandwich my ID and some cash. Then wrap produce rubber bands around it all to hold in place. every thing you need nicely packed in your center jersey pocket.

Can you comfortably fit a spare tube, tire levers and a CO2 cartridge in it though and would you really want to use any of those items if you had a flat?

That's the one I have on my bike. I think it looks pretty good and it is fairly minimalist.

This one works well and is tiny:

I have in it: set of two plastic tire irons, 25c presta tube, small patch kit, Topeak multi tool.

I have this one:

It sites nicely under the seat. And it a little longer so you can pack it like you're riding to hell and back.

than don't use one. you can easily go to any CVS pharmacy, and get a travel soap container for 99 cents, and use that. it will fit 1 tube, 1 CO2 cartridge, 1 inflater and 1 tire lever in it, closed...

The SciCon bags look pretty cool. If you check their site, they even have pro endorsed bags, like the Damiano Cunego bag, or the Alessadro Petacchi bag. They're also at Cbike.com. And they're some sort of "carbon reinforced" or something. Basically, a carbon pattern to make them look cooler. And they have pretty cool colors. Plus Competitive Cyclist calls them the Colnago of seat bags, I think.

the specialized mini-wedgie. newer version has a much smaller zipper strap, so it doesn't flop in the breeze. Bottom and back flap are waterproof rubber coated, keeps stuff in the bag dry.

I rock this bad boy. At 8 bucks, it's tough to beat. Scicon thinks their little bag is pretty special at $30+ lol. I wanted something small and that didn't wrap around the seatpost. The velcro on my last bag was wearing a hole in the CF. 17 CU.
