Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Plenty. They come with a couple of CMs of spacers and of course you can always cut more of the mast off.

I've run 120s forever and they work for me. So when I go custom, I work with the builder to design things with that length in mind.

Simply - I don't want to mess with what works. I can't see any advantage in going shorter or longer.

The 595? You have 2" of play with the saddle height. You cut the seat tube to the desired height.

I say get both. you can only ride one at a time and I wouldn't mind having a *slightly* sweeter ride. You can have pimp juice, and I'll take KITT (i named the black one after knight rider already, so you'll have to talk you-know-who into it).

Maybe it's just the novelty and freshness of riding something new?

Crumpton SL is the best bike youve ridden...until you get back on a Calfee Tetra Pro?

Easy! When you quit riding other bikes! My two dream bikes are the Pinarello Prince and the Look 595. I have the sense to not get within spitting distance of either

I still don't understand your fascination with short stems. I ride a 110 on a 50cm Cannondale. Would be a 120mm if I went to the 48cm (1cm shorter TT).

As I've said before, and will say again, if you're between sizes, get the smaller size, every time. Because you can take a small bike and make it the same size or larger, but you can't make a big bike smaller. I realize he has a custom bike, but why would he want to have a larger frame when he can achieve the same thing with a slightly longer stem and seatpost? I have no clue if Terry B races, but he has a "race fit" frame.

Love the red touches on the bottle holders and up on the bars - is that red finishing tape?

I'm this far from heading down to the local Look dealer and buying one... You guys are bad company.

+1 I ride a 120mm stem with no issues, my bikes handle great. I also agree totally with the idea of going one size smaller and making up for the difference through the stem. When I fit people I talk with them about how they want to be positioned. If someone really wants an upright position then I'll go with the larger size to minimize the drop. Otherwise go with the smaller size and get more of drop and a more aero postition.

In truth, I wonder if that ever starts unwinding and there's anyone with a story like this that ends with " . . . and then I rode a Scattante and THAT was the best bike . . . "

Its probably due to a smaller wheelbase.

The 595 won't be 'quicker'. If the frames both fit ideally, the difference in power transferred to the road may be like, 1 watt, assuming same component set. I'm sure the experts could speculate on this.

I get that it feels different. That's fair enough, but how long did you ride it for?

But they are damn sexy.

also comparing a Tarmac Elite to a Look 595 is not a fair comparison. Although the Tarmac was designed to be a race bike, the frame costs less than half of the LOOK, so you can expect better carbon, better manufacturing and better engineering (even though they are French ). You are better off comparing the S-Works SL2 to the 595.

+1 I was refraining, but since it's out there, I wouldn't give it even the one watt.

I do love the Looks though. Probably my favorite high-end bike.

What are you talking about? I run a 110 stem on my road bike and 120 on my fixed gear track bike.

Why do you have to bring slow tuna boats into equation? Let's stay focused on bikes. No need to be hatin'.
