Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

As I sat on a bench next to a MUP this past Friday a woman with a small dog on a retractable leash slowly walked past. The dog was on the oposite side of the path as her (of course) and was sniffing at some...whatever dogs sniff at. A cyclist comes by and passes her on her left and completely failing to notice the leash, runs right over it. It is worth noting that the leash was black, and it was almost dark.

Fortunately for all involved, the leash was slack, and not the trip line it may have been.

As the cyclist went by, the woman let out a loud squeal of horror. Then, to anybody who was within yelling distance, "You almost ran over my dog! Oh my God, did you see that? He almost ran over my dog!"

Well, duh.

People are amazing sometimes. I wanted to throttle her, but I wisely chose not to involve myself.

I'm sure they must have been thinking "I'll get two birds with one stone" They get to excersize, and take the dog on a walk... lazy...
I saw a teenager doing this with a regular leash and a skateboard. Of course he was on his cellphone as well.

I used to have a Brittany that would take me rollerblading. It was definitely an E ride. The secret is to jump into the grass when you want to stop.
