Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Quattro cleats—2-hole, 2-hole w/ adapter, or 3-hole?

The 2-hole alone has the thinnest profile, but am I correct in assuming that there is no stability advantage with the wider 3-hole cleat because the contact point is still the small, pivoty little mechanism?

Any experiences? I'm using Sidis.

You are correct. I've had all three cleats and just gave them up for some SPD-SL's. I realize now that I don't like all the float EB gives. Anyone want to buy some used eb or quattro's?

I actually like the mechanism, I just wanted to see if anyone preferred any configuration to the other. I just switched from the standard 3-hole road cleat to the 2-hole road cleat.

Now that I think about it, the 2-hole is probably the most stable as it is the only configuration where the brass cleat is bolted directly to the shoe. Just wanted to know if anyone has an further experiences with this.

It all depends on what cleat fits the shoe. I prefer not to use an adaptor plate since it increases the stack height.

When you say the 2 hole cleat, are you talking about the quattro specific 2 hole cleat or the eggbeater road cleat?

Quattro-specific. The Sidis support both 2- and 3-bolt patterns. Nice thing about the 2-bolt Quattros is that it has panning adjustment as well as fore/aft.

I don't think there'd be any difference. The Quattro 3-hole cleat is just a piece of plastic with 5 holes. 3 to bolt to your shoe, and 2 to bolt the cleat on. The cleat is still attached to that with screws from the other side.

I don't think there'd be much of a difference. Both contact the pedal with the U-shaped pontoon. If i could, i'd use the 2-hole ones since i can find them at the LBS where i'd have to order the 3-hole cleats online or put in a special order with the LBS...
