Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My new 928L

I just picked up this 06 Bianchi 928L Di Luca frame. What a beautiful frame and it's relatively light. I took everything off, even the cage bolts, FD clamp and seat clamp and it came in at 1312g. The carbon fork came in at 360g.

Anyway, this is the start of my build. I shooting to get it down to 14.5lbs and plan to use a Campy Record drivetrain with some nice light parts to finish it out.

Here are some pics.

Looks like the paint to me, but I would take it to the shop you got it from (before buildin the bike up of course) and show it to them. Get some form of assurance IN WRITTING from them regarding this issue just in case it becomes more than just the paint. Otherwise I would just return it. That is jsut me thought.

Beautiful frameset. Not sure about the "cracked" paint. Is it possable to overtighten a derailer clamp enough to crack the carbon? Or would the bolt break first. Anyway that is one sweet frame.

I think it might be paint, but it's best to have an LBS look it over.

P.S. That is a friggin beautiful frame!

Thanks guys. You have to see it in person. The photos don't do it justice. I was kind of bummed about the weight cause I saw a pick of the exact same frame and size but different paint and it came in at 1190g. 122g difference, not the end of the world but still. Can't wait to build her up.

About the crack, I'm going to take it to my local LBS and see what they say.

I've always liked that frame but I'm surprised it weighs that much. I almost bought one on Ebay but it turned out to be a scam; thankfully I got wise.

Yeah the weight surprised me as well. Could be that my scale is off.

I have to figure out how to know for sure if the carbon cracked or not. A LBS could just BS me or really not know and give me a wrong answer.

I'm going to contact the shop from where I purchased the frame before I start peeling off paint.

I just spoke with the shop and the owner assure me that it's just the paint and the carbon isn't cracked. He said he's 100% sure and that it happened on a bunch of other Bianchi frames as well. Apparently the paint is thick in that area and when you tighten the clamp the paint cracks.
