Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Count me in... Not any of the classic steel or handmade steeds previously posted, but steel just the same.

Here's a lugged steel tandem we just added to our harem over the winter. It was built by Bob Brown Cycles out of St. Paul, MN:

Other steel bikes in my collection include the following single bikes:

1985 Bianchi

1983 Trek 720

Jim - loving the Trek. And the Tandem is a work of art as well. Still rolling on the same three steel frames I probably posted back 20 pages ago so I won't post them again.

I take it back, I've actually added two steel bikes since my first post (steel club member 65!):

First up is a 1978 Gazelle Champion Mondial A-Frame to go with the 83 AB-Frame I already had

And also a 91 Schwinn Crosscut (fairly sure it was made by Giant):

Now running Look Keo Sprint pedals and will soon be swapping out the Simplex shifters for a set of Gazelle Pantographed Record shifters as soon as I get the clamp band in from another BF's member. However when it comes to upgrading for looks and comfort my Serotta is at the top of that list:

1986 Serotta Nova (originally Super Record equipped).
Now running a mix of Campagnolo Record / Chorus / Centaur. New wheels have been added since that photo, those wheels now live on my Gazelle AB-Frame which is also running Campy 10sp group these days.

Man, I want a Cross Check...

My LBS told me the other day that I'm a full blown bike junkie now. I think this is a very good thing!

Very good but very expensive thing! Oh well, it's only money...you'll make more. Enjoy life and get out there and ride.

These pictures are old, and do not show the current configuration and/or condition of my steelies, anyway:

2003 Trek 520 (3/4 way through rebuild)

1996 Trek 370 (As Purchased)

1996 Bianchi Osprey (As Purchased - I wouldn't ride it with the seat like that!!!)

I'll have to get the camera out for some updated pics.

The Allez is on the auction block. I liked it but now I'm looking for steel that's a bit more modern.

Good for you, I like shiny. I already have 9 bikes, if I sell a couple (never happens) and/or find a spare $8K lying around, than the Cinelli xcr it is.

My Surly Pacer serves as my trusty steed for touring. granted my carbon bike is a different geometry but this bike i don't mind spending 12hours a day for days on end.
