Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

lowed the handlebars

My handlebars were level with the saddle and I lowered them 1 inch. Do you think that little bit would help any, as far as getting my speed up a little. I'll work on getting lower as I continue to ride, but I just wanted to know if I would gain anything.

Honestly I don't think that would make any difference. That drop is usually set for comfort. If you want to be faster, get in the drops and put the hammer in it's place.

It'll lower your wind resistance, assuming you ride in the drops and are getting a flatter back. Taking it down 1 inch is a big step, though. You'd be better off lowering it gradually.
